This really pisses me off. Why don’t you people realise that there are millions of heating systems out there without thermostats? I’ve never lived somewhere with a heating system that goes on and off depending on the actual room temperature.
Really? Are you in the UK? I don’t think I have ever seen a house that doesn’t either have a single thermostat in a hallway or somewhere or a number of thermostats for different zones in the home.

Surely you could add a wireless thermostat fairly cheaply and make the system much more efficient?
Well, my house is heated by wood. If it’s cold, I light a fire. If it’s warm, I don’t. I’m currently lighting fires.

Not had to turn it on as it’s been on all Summer. As discovered after a little household audit and noticing that the gas bill has been constant all year and then discovering one of the electric valves jammed on. Which is nice.

No thermostat here but then I don't have gas to the house so none of that fancy central heating malarky that I've heard about. There are plenty of alternative heating systems in UK houses that don't use a thermostat.

Heating maintenance chappie has been. Lovely chap. Fixed everything. Left.

We now have no heating and no hot water.

Which is nice.

We never change any settings.
Heating timers set to come on at regular intervals regardless of the time of year.
Only the thermostat stops it cooking us in summer.

We also have our bedroom window open all year round as I prefer it cold in there.

We simply keep the bedroom door closed to stop heat completely escaping.

It works out perfect for us.
Admittedly my wife occasionally gives the thermostat a nudge upwards as 21degrees isn't quite hot enough for her.

Thermostat is set at 18 degrees, wife kids and dog all complaining. Might have to capitulate and light the log burner next week.

I set our thermostat to 17 but it’s also on a timer so only runs 6-9am and then 5-10pm. There is an Aga that I’ve just relit that keeps the kitchen warm and a 14kw log burner in the drawing room that will heat the main section of the house when it gets cold. Jumpers and slippers are available but so long as the doors to rooms that are not used are kept closed then the house never gets cold.

We had a six week period where the heating was off and no logs were being burned. We have been back on the log burner for a while now and so settling into 'winter' mode.

Just the 5KW rather than the 8.

I’ve honestly no idea. Our radiators only get warm to the touch in extreme temperatures. We have a temp sensor on the outside of the house and the boiler does what it wants all year round with the desired temp set on the boiler panel itself. As a bonus it’s incredibly frugal.

I have a mix of heating solutions: aircon system heats as well as cools (main is 5.5KW, bedroom ones are all 3KW), a few oil panel electric radiators dotted about and an Ethanol fireplace (7KW). Don't expect to need any of them until November though. Still have the aircon cooling on in the evenings at the moment; that'll probably continue into next month.

Still working out how much heating I'll need here; next purchase will be an 11KW Ethanol fireplace if what I have isn't enough. But managed ok through what was described as the worst winter in a decade last time around, certainly the previous winter was a lot warmer. (Algarve)

"I" haven't put the heating and never will, that's my butler's job.

Went on a few days ago. Had 3 degrees on the car's OBC. That's cold enough for me.

Only six degrees overnight here in London. Still currently twenty one degrees in my flat so the heating isn't on yet but it might be slightly chilly during the night!

First home from work this evening and noticed it was distinctly chillier in the house than of late so I shut a couple of upstairs windows, it soon became a bit warmer.

Still to put the heating on but I can feel it won't be long coming, especially as the wife asked for the blanket this evening; she gets cold feet, I'm not a huge fan of having the heating on as it just makes the house stuffy, I much prefer it a bit fresher!

My finger is hovering over the ‘on’ switch.

Three degrees overnight. THREE.
