Have you put your heating on yet?
Discussion
Shouldn't really go on until November but on noticing it was decidedly colder when I got in last night, thermostat said 17°C, I went round the house, bleed all the radiators, topped up the pressure in the boiler, and gave it a test firing. It was just a test though, don't need it on yet, must resist......
17c in the flat this morning, we usually wait until the night time temp indoors drops to 15c then stick it on timer for a couple hours in the evenings and very early morning just to take the chill off.
Daytime temps have been around 20c/21c so still fine really.
I was brought up in a household where the heating was used as sparingly as possible to save money, I guess its worn off on me!

On yet? nope. but that's because the boiler is dead, it just won't fire up. switching it on/off again is like playing a slot machine, it stays on when you hit jackpot. Will need a new boiler. not keen on dropping £1-3k on one though.
I wouldn't wait until you need it because by then the gas engineers will be busy fixing everyone else's when they discover they have a broken boiler, too.We are now entering the realms of:
- The thermostat being put up to 30, to "heat the house quicker"
- The thermostat being put up to 30, to "heat the house quicker" and being forgotten about so when I come home from work, the house feels like the Eden Project.
- Front door wide open whilst the wife farts about doing something in the garden or porch, with the boiler going overtime to heat the street, then she comes in and moans that the house is cold.
- Front door wide open whilst the wife chats to her friend across the entrance as the friend doesn't have time to come in for a chat, 20 minutes later they are still chatting, with the boiler going overtime to heat the street, then she comes in and moans that the house is cold.
- Whacking the heating up as "its cold", but first not checking that there are any windows open.
- Leaving the bathroom door wide open and moaning the house is cold, I like to keep a window open in the bathroom to keep it aired; bloody keep the door shut!!

Just gave it a test run, as the house is new to me and the boiler is approaching 40 years old. It might be old, but it gets the house up to temp in no time!
You've just killed an artic penguin. Hope you are happy Our house was like that when we moved in. 40 year old floor standing monster. Sounded like a hot air balloon taking off.
Replaced for a Worcester located in the garage.
Heating turned itself on today. Wife swears she didn't touch the nest..
No, we turn ours on and off manually to save wasted money/oil/polar bears. I have lit the wood burner in our living room every night this week though, nice and toasty while burning through all the free wood I built up a huge stock of over the summer.
House is a converted barn with 2 foot thick Granite walls so it keeps a pretty steady temp all year round anyway.
