What a bizarre thing to ask. Why not just ask them?
As said earlier I don't want to stroke his egoIf one of my mates sneaked off and made a thread on tinternet about my house asking how much something was I'd think he was a proper dick.

Jealous? Why? It's apparently a c£26k oven nearly anyone could get a personal loan to get one or pay cash it's hardly a LOT of £ but IMHO it's a huge amount for an oven and I wasn't even aware such priced cookers existed

You sound like a 'mate' who is just a bit jealous to us tbh. Shame.

Yes but I don't generally ask people how much certain thing cost hence asking here. Clearly we are different - maybe he upgraded for his wife as a gift who knows.
Is your mate on this site? As I am looking forward to a "Have they cloned my Kitchen" Thread http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...Welshbeef said:

Are you really are a finance director? Seriously? You know how that guy in Slough or somewhere caused the flash crash, are you sure you were not responsible for the easy credit that caused the 2008 crash? "No job, no income? No problem, have £26k, infact have 2 lots, I insist"

What does it actually do though?
It's basically made out of high end steel so is tough, has amazing gas burners (very adjustable and hot when needed) and two ovens - one gas and one electric. No programmers, timers, fans or fancy electronics. There are so few moving parts that I get the impression it will out last me.
These were made of quality materials and had very few moving parts and cooked a lovely Sunday roast but unfortunately they were quite cheap so wouldn't suit many on here. They did look crap like the commercial appliances discussed on here.

Not really a friend then? are you a bit jealous?
We have one of those, well 2, and they're now married.Me and the OH moved into a new house, nothing amazing at all, a 'nice' first home.
They and another friend came over, other friend was gushing with xyz is nice what are your plans etc etc, the couple were just silent and had the huff. Can never be happy for anyone else, They seem to see life as a competition, which lets be honest, no one ever wins - as there's aways someone 'better'.

A simple question how much is that has turned into character abuse - merry xmas to you too.

I cannot imagine a situation where a friend of mine has bought something that I'm interested in but rather than ask the friend, I ask the internet for fear of inflating my friend's ego. For me, friendship doesn't work like that.
Merry xmas to you too, I hope you enjoy it with friends.

'A simple question' equates to 'I saw my mate has one of these and didn't ask him how much as I was jealous and didn't want him to know I was impressed - I phrase this as 'stroking his ego'' which enables us to assess your character.

Just because I liked the look of a widget doesn't mean I want it - in this specific instance I appreciate it and that is all not really the taste of oven we'd have (note I'd have little say in oven choice anyway that's down to the boss).

La Cornue are my favourite....
Is that what you have or do you have experience of them? I'd never heard of them so just looked at their web site, interesting. However I wouldn't want another French cooker like a Lacanche where there's only one place to buy spares so they've got you over a barrel and one fitter for the whole of the south of the country so you can't get it fixed for 3 weeks! loughran said:
Ive had to assemble the side panels and rear grilles on a couple of Lacanche Clunys.
They are utter tat. Do not buy one.
Cant tell if serious or not.....They are utter tat. Do not buy one.
To the guy saying about one service guy for the south - that isn't my experience. We had a new kitchen (in the North admittedly) and the burners needed adjusting. This was years after purchase but a chap came round and adjusted the whole thing. I don't remember waiting for very long and was very impressed by the service.
