Decent LED replacements for those teeny bi-pin bulbs
Discussion
Does anyone have a good idea? I've got loads of these halogen jobbies in my kitchen, including in a whopping great John Lewis chandelier thing the previous owners installed.
They keep blowing and of course they're energy sapping. The chandelier alone is around 400w with all the 20w bulbs.
Trouble is the under-cupboard downlighter ones are pushed into a recess that give very little space when the circular glass cover is replaced, ie the LED bulbs can't be any bigger. These are annoying. Why they didn't use conventional downlighters I don't know.

Have a search for LED G4 lamps, this will give you a better idea of what is available.
I've been reading reviews on Amazon but no-one seems entirely happy with them. Can trust Phillips and these might work on the chandelier, but they're pricey and too big for the cupboard downlighters

I use Light in the Box, cheap as chips, take a couple of weeks to turn up from China but I have had only one failure so far having replaced a number of bulbs or various types. Might be worth a taking chance if you do not find anything else: http://www.lightinthebox.com/narrow/g4_v48831t0/le...

There aren't any 'decent' replacements.
This.Done everything at home bar the nine G4s - Five in a bathroom downlighter which rarely gets used and four in the kitchen which I switch off assiduously - they burn 80w which, whilst I wouldn't have given a monkey's about at one time, now seems somewhat profligate!

FWIW I'm exactly the same as you. Didn't used to bother me but as my kids and wife seem unable to turn a bloody light off it's started to bother me too.
The philips ones look too big....the LightInTheBox ones look interesting.....we have 3 x spiraly ceiling lights, each with 10 of these bulbs in and they are ALWAYS blowing. Mind you, sometimes when I pull the small glass shade off, the bulb lights up, so probably just rubbish quality (r-goose sourced!) fittings.....

Good prices on that site, at least. Cheap enough for some trial and error!Murph7355 said:
This is one LED replacement that I've had some success with, but I think mine are 10W...I'll try and dig out the details later.
Not dimmable though....

Not cheap, and if not covered might not look as you want.
My light fitting has frosted glass covers over the bulbs so that's not an issue.
I'm a bit late to the party on this one, but, I have a fair few of these going spare. I also have a couple of LED drivers. I was replacing exactly as you are doing but eventually re-built the light internals to take G9 because of flickering, despite using the correct amps for the drivers. They are various wattage, but all work from 12v.
If you would like the "package" let me know, you're welcome to have them.

I have replaced all our lamps with LEDs over the last 4 years.
The very last to go were the G4s as I couldn't find anything small enough, until Kosnic brought out these:

They are just a little longer but same size on diameter, when on they look just like the Halogens.
