"Solent City" i.e. the sprawl from Southampton to Portsmouth is an odd place. You have pockets of huge wealth & property prices to match in the desirable yachty towns but the rest is a bit shabby to say the least.Locks Heath is generally not prestigious and prices reflect that. However, my parents went to view this bungalow the other week and were left distinctly unimpressed at what half a million bought given the condition of it https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/108308900#/

She has a bath mat that says “Hello Gorgeous”. I don’t even have a front door mat that says “Welcome”.

Not a nightmare as such. But a pretty big pool for such a conventional house.

Definitely featured in a few amateur British porn movies, it's got that vibe.https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/109021106#/
Probably not too nightmarish.
But a pretty unimaginative way to spend (by the time you've factored in moving costs) 1/2 million.

That's very nice. It's neutral but they've not succumbed to the abhorrent "white and grey everything" trend, so it's warm and inviting. Differing fixtures and fittings across the rooms but following a theme, and the rooms are big but the use of space is good. It also doesn't look like a conference centre. Can't find much to complain about really! Other than I can't afford it Tattenhall, Cheshire

It is indeed an odd one with some massive disparity. As per the property pawn thread, the areas along the river have some multi-million pound mansions and the area between Sarisbury Green and Warsash is now a firm favourite for massive new homes being built, many of them 7 figures. My partner is particularly happy that Tom Hardy has just bought a pad down there.
Locks Heath is generally not prestigious and prices reflect that. However, my parents went to view this bungalow the other week and were left distinctly unimpressed at what half a million bought given the condition of it https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/108308900#/
It's reasonably close to Whiteley which has the Business park - so not the worst place to buy/live in terms of being placed for work, access to the motorway, access to the sea, etc. I know a couple of people who have lived there or live near there - and we have a customer near there. Living space / land a little on the small side, but not the worst place and location to live.
Wow what a lovely little house. Isn't France a bargain? Gosh, it really is.....oh hang on, did the estate agent REALLY include a photo of the TGV line pantographs at the bottom of the garden???

Honestly the photography skills of French agents is one of the greatest comedy turns since Tommy Cooper carked it live on stage.
(Yes I know they're probably not called pantographs, shoot me down railway nerds.)

For my (seemingly) sins, I live in Locks Heath and you are right, there is good access to the motorway, sea and most shops you need within a short walk or drive away.
The vast majority of the housing stock is 3 bed or bigger as most of it was built before the planning applications had to have the high density housing or social housing element. Even Priory Park has relatively few 2 beds given the size of the estate.
Whiteley is a different matter as its all mid 80s onwards so the density is a lot higher and, until recently, the traffic was insane as it was one road in and out.

Over here you'd be living in somewhere like Middlesbrough for that money - I'd put up with the trains myself.....

Looks like one of those Doughboy above ground jobs that has been fully recessed, probably only 4 feet deep or something. A little overlooked for my taste but it fits the space surprisingly well.https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/109021106#/

Much like a house that backed onto a freight line i went to look at with my daughter. 1 train a day transpired to be many coal and freight trains per day, that each took 5 mins to pass the house.

I like that, but I would have to sort out the front windows as a symetrical house like that cant then have different window sizes for no apparent reason, it would bug me everytime I looked at it.Tattenhall, Cheshire
