Really needs some write up as to its history because odd property is very odd.

Last time this one was seen for sale they were asking £1.2M

Didn't sell the last time and was discussed here.

Can't remember when it was on here, but it was quite run down and overgrown as recently as 2018 - https://goo.gl/maps/ZukNcnyVC2ymEY3WA
What's the story with this one then? Why is such an expensive property smack bang in between an industrial estate?

Also, why is it that modern mansion style homes have acres of this orangey wood - there's a few properties by me which are the same. The wood and the white walls make it look like a premier inn, and thats probably an insult to premier inns.

Utterly nuts. The most incongruously-located house I think I've ever seen. Close to unsellable, however shiny the floors are.

Have you seen what's just across the road from it?

That house is owned by a member of a certain element of the tree-surgery, caravan towing, driveway tarmac community. There's a lot of that in Bishop Auckland.

Very strange but the price seems fairly sensible.

In the right setting that house wouldn't be horrendous but I agree it's unsellable in that location.

Wonder what it would bring at auction, £750k on a good day?

Did they cut that hole in the garage floor to get the washing machine into the cellar?

Stairs in the right of the garage photo...

I did initially think it was a grate over an inspection pit.

I think that's what it is. You'd need to stand on a table or something, but still a useful thing to have.

Agreed, it's better to have the ability than not. A garage above a basement is unusual to me, though.

Is there some building control issue about dangerous gases gathering or something?

Not sure, I do know of some houses where the garage is above the living room, as they are cut into a hillside and the driveways are to the rear.

Can't believe how cheap that place is. Don't know the area but 325k seems like a bargain.

It does seem a tad odd. It isn't in the back end of nowhere. However, the house does have a slightly eclectic layout so perhaps when you look under the veneer you discover it's been bodged around and needs plenty of remedial work?

“DOMINATING a site on the edge of a town, Tindale Towers - the four-storey home of Mike and Jules Keen - has become a talking point.

The art deco-style mansion standing cheek by jowl with an industrial estate in Bishop Auckland, but also with an elevated view of Weardale, is the fulfilment of a dream by the couple who own and run a nearby flourishing furniture company, Keen Replicas.

The construction of the capacious home is also down to the foresight of Wear Valley District Council, which stuck its neck out above the planning parapet and gave permission for the luxury property.

"We have no doubt we would never have got permission to build it anywhere else,'' said Mr Keen.

For some time, the couple lived in a modest bungalow which stood on the site of their new palatial pad, but after buying a plot of neighbouring land, the Keens began building their dream home.“
