Ive had my drive dug out and compacted hardcore layed. I will soon be laying block pavings on I think about 30mm of sharp sand. If I wanted lighting in various places can I lay the cables in the sand. Or should it be dug into the hardcore.
Also any recommendations of where to order lights.
Many thanks

How bright do you want them? If it's just a puddle effect you're after then solar powered LEDs are really rather good these days.

Run cabling in the sand, preferably inside 25mm plastic conduit, unless you're using armoured cable.

Really, interesting. I have only ever found solar outdoor lighting to be little more than useless and poor quality. But I've only ever really seen the cheap b&q type stuff. If the latest stuff is up to it it would make life so much easier.
Cheers

Are there any solar LEDs you could recommend? My experience of solar LEDs was like RufusGTI's, but have technology and quality improved?

If youre going for in ground lights something WILL leak sooner or later, use low voltage of some sort and make provision for accessable junctions, for example one Ive just done I've used 12" of drainpipe at each light so cables/joint fold in then light pops in on top.

Mains voltage = 1 light leaks, whole system trips, take them all apart to investigate.

Low volatge = 1 light leaks, 1 light stops. If you use mr16 fittings you just clean them out, re seal and new lamp.

Trust me Ive got years of installing, and fixing other peoples bodgeups.

Very good advise. Keep the cable/lights user accessible, as water alway finds a way!!

We fit a lot of the marshalls lights, they are available from the supplier for less money, iirc about 400 or so for 5 led low voltage lights. Easy to fit, easy to replace. Not like the fking nightmare that fitting proper 240 stuff is. The electricians aren't pavers and the pavers aren't electricians.
They are block size (well regular block size). And look great

A slightly cheaper! alternative is the Quick connect (Techmar) stuff some of it from Toolstation

Low voltage, LED

(depends how long your drive is though)
