Tight tee and practice your best mince.

In all seriousness, good luck.

I rented with a mate, and now have bought with, as we got a far nicer property with combined earnings.

I did enjoy telling estate agents "my partner" would call back later and wait for my mate to explode when the estate agent said "your boyfriend rang earlier" biglaugh

All you can do is request to negotiate with the landlord and explain the situation.

When my boyfriend and I moved in to our current rented place, we thought it was obvious that we were a couple. A week or two later, when a mark in the second bedroom was to be painted over, the agent asked which of us was sleeping in that room, as they would need to move some furniture to access the wall.

"Neither of us, we're both in the big room. Why?"
"Oh, but... Oh... Oh! Oh I see. Right, yes, no problem."

You could hear the penny dropping...

If you think it's going to get you the place, when they come back with "no sharers" just say that you're a couple. They have no reason to check, and from that point they would foresee themselves being bound by equalities legislation, and would not be allowed to ask you to prove it.

surely two single men working full time would tear up a house alot less than a family? why would they not want to rent it out to them? I can only thing they think two men would use it for drugs?
Absolutely. My flat is rented to three single men, all in full-time employment. I did not want a family.

It;s kept in a great state, despite parties they have etc.

Children and students wreck stuff, adult blokes having the odd party may be messy/dirty (mine aren't as I insist on a cleaner every two weeks), but they won't wreck stuff like kids/pets will.

from my experience 2 blokes or 2 ladies sharing don't work out well because:
a) they often fall out with each other very quickly and One wants to leave
b) Their jobs are more transient types thus One moves location because of job
c) they each bring back partners and you then have 3 or 4 people in a property when there should be 2
d) they are normally very young and as such generally don't make good tenants ie parties/lots of visitors
e) They may have a min of 2 cars but often will have more - boys toys etc.
f) There are tenants out there who are a better bet. - You can get a longer let to a couple/married/family who are also more stable, reliable and less likely to be a hassle.

If we were struggling to let a property then 2 blokes/girls sharing would still be very far down our list of who to put in. A gay couple would be ok as it shows some stability but also the age is important to consider for stability and good tenants but we would still assess them and fully reference.
Yep.

hehe

Me and a mate did this years ago, wanted to move out of home but could only afford 1 bed places, our plan was for one of us to have the living room and the other the bedroom, agents and landlords weren't keen on this at all, so we pretended to be a couple, no issues

My parents are just finalising there latest rental property, 3 Bed (2 doubles and a single), garage, driveway for 2 cars length way, semi-detached, plus it's in the small cul-de-sac opposite mine, so you get me as a neighbor biggrin

Should be ready for renting out in a week or 2, will probably be around the £850-900pm mark (it's near the Mini dealership)

ETA: Garage is the same size as mine and the Corvette fits in fine (so does the Mustang with my toolboxes and stuff at the end and that is a seriously long car)

I don't have any pics of it, but it's joined to the house below, so everything is the same(bar garage hasn't been converted, doesn't have side garden and the attic is still just an attic) it's just a mirror image setup.

Rent it!! I need more petrolheads around me biggrin

We'd actually be very interested in looking at that. Do you have a contact number or email address?

We're tied in to the flat until May 8th, and I'm off to the Nurburgring next Satuday, looking to move in to a new place after then so the timing looks promising.

I think the estate agents are coming to do the photos on Friday as they don't want to manage themselves, but they wouldn't reject you(I can tell them not to anyway), so once it's all finalised with them I'll drop you the details of who to contact.

Nice one, thanks pal.

Also if your Corvette is red I definitely saw you down by the stray the other week. Can't be too many Corvettes!

It's encouraging to me that the perception of two gay guys living together is preferable to two mates living together.
It might not be in Harrogate!

It was actually at night, think I was in my E36. I'd just done the driveshaft in so was limping it home.

Estate Agent has gone quiet on my gay question btw.

I did think to myself the hardest part of convincing an estate agent you were gay was that you were looking to live in Harrogate. I had to look it up on Google Maps.

Could you not just put the agreement in one name then get your mate to pay you?

Ah yes, night time through town is one of my favourite times in the Corvette, really lets that Borla system sing biggrin

I may be putting 2+2 together and getting 5 here, but your flat mate isn't a chap named Charles perhaps?

To be fair if i was a landlord i would choose a gay couple over a normal couple, as less chance of kids around.

Not if you read the daily mail.
