The wardrobes look good.

How long did you leave the masking tape on after finishing painting?

Just as a heads up we bought frog tape which admittedly is very expensive for tape (£5 a roll) you don't get any paint coming off.

It had two coats, so it would have been two days basically.

Right ladies and gents, I'm after some advice/thoughts on an issue I've been pondering.
One of the reasons we bought this house was that it has a wooden workshop already installed in the garden. This is the beast

My wife's business means she needs a workplace that can get dirty/be noisy etc. However she doesn't need one as large as we have (it's the size of a single garage). Therefore she has constentrd to let me split it, to allow us to remove the 2nd shed from the garden to free up more space. I've spent the last couple of days looking at this and have been umming and aahing, hence the request for thoughts.
The workshop could be divided in two, there is already a dividing beam in place, however to divide it there would mean it would go across one of the Windows, as this picture shows

The other alternative is to have the divide just the other side of the window (closer to the door), but this makes the shed end smaller than is ideal (plus gives SWMBO more space than she needs). What do you guys think we should do, and (bearing in mind how diy inept I am!) how should I do it!
Ta in advance

Edited to add - excuse the state of the workshop at the mo. It's being used for storage whilst we sort the house!!

I always take any tape off as soon as I've finished painting. As the paint is still wet, it can't do this. Reapply tape for second coat once first is dry

Good tip, thanks! I think after this, that's exactly what I'll do from now on!!

Apologies for the silence on this thread. Relatively little has happened to the house recently, due to work commitments and the fact we’re expecting another child (I must be mad!), however I do have an exceedingly exciting development which should be materialising in the new year! However until it’s completed I can’t say more here (but rest assured It’ll be all over here once all the t’s are crossed!), other than to wish you all a happy new year!

I don't mean to be a misery guts, but is the plasterboard/skirting board behind the wood burner fire resistant? Only reason I ask is that we has to sell our uninstalled wood burner, partly because we hadn't installed the correct plasterboard and skirting board and a small LED light was too close. We couldn't face destroying the room and so got rid of the wood burner.

It isn’t, no, but the wood burner is mounted far enough away from the wall for it to be ok, according to the hetas regs and the manufacturers’ recommendations! Also the actual combustion doesn’t happen at the bottom of the fire, so the area next to the skirting doesn’t actually get hot at all! I’ve felt the wall behind the fire when it’s blazing, and it’s only marginally warmer than the areas away from the fire so hopefully it’ll be fine!

Very interesting. Thank you. I need to look into this again because the certified installer didn't ask what wood burner we had purchased. All he was interested in was the distance from flammable materials. Something isn't right and knowing my luck I'll have had four years of unnecessary grief from the missus for not having a wood burner.

No probs at all. I’ll try to find the installation instructions for our fire, which I know are online. It gives a distance from plasterboard/wooden walls for installation purposes in there, which may be useful. From memory I think it was 30cm for a metal side, and 80 from a window’d side, but that could be wrong!

I've found them and had a look. What I don't know is if the UK regs overrule the manufacturers instructions. Trying to find out.

So this is from the installation instructions for our fire. As you can see the distances aren’t that massive! We also have an insulated flue, which I presume must be a hetas requirement as we weren’t given the option not to have it!
Hope this helps!

Yeah, not sure about that but I know we have a hetas certificate so I presume it must be ok! However I say this from a position of complete ignorance please understand!

Cheers. If you've got a HETAS certificate then that's good enough for me. However, I won't mention this to the missus until I'm ready to dust off my wallet. Cheap they are not.

In the gas world manufacturers instructions trump British standards. If they a dimension can be less than the British standard then that’s what you go by. I’d imagine it’s the same for hetas maybe email them to confirm?.

Out of interest, do you have a link to the foreign website you bought the stove from?

Of course! It’s www.pejseringen.dk I have no link to them, other than that I have bought from them and had a really good experience!
However the website is in Danish, so if you need any translations done, ping me a message (I’m half Danish and speak it fluently)
