I used to live over that way, 25yrs ago, always liked Market Harborough. I'll take a little time out re-visit, also like Rutland albeit a bit further out.

What's the development like around MH? Is it plagued/due to be, by new estates surrounding it as so many midlands towns are?
My sister has lived in Welford for about 15 years - seems a nice enough village. I can ask her opinion of the surrounding villages if you want.

This is about 500m from her house - although in Welford it is hard to be more than 500m from anyone.... 5 bed semi with 2 storey garage/workshop/annexe

Plenty of character!

We lived in Kenilworth a couple of years ago and then wanted to move to somewhere bigger and a little further South to make my wife's commute easier.
We spent a lot of time looking around and settled on a lovely little village near Fenny Compton, it had the added bonus of Hs2 going nearby which devalued the house considerably, to the point that we could afford it, once HS2 is done the price should go back up, the line will be far enough away not to bother us.
Whilst it's a small village and not the small town that you're after, there's a nice village community, a couple of really good pubs, a village hall, a school etc.. it's really really quiet too.

How about

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...

This is a village about 10 mins drive from Banbury.

Do you want a town or a village? This is about 4 miles from gaydon but very quiet village with no shops or pub : http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...

This is in a quiet road in Southam. Short walk to shops and about 5 pubs :http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-58200202.html

Don't do southam you'll bump in to that bloke who owns the chippy in Eastenders while at the off licence and he'll demand to know if you know who he is.

Pretty much anywhere is south Warwickshire is nice, south leicestershire is too if you stay away from the bits by North Warwickshire. Some lovely villages between Warwick and alcester.

Realistically it has to be a town.

Edge of small town where everythings within walking distance, once settled we'd relocate MIL to the area. She doesn't drive and would want to be local, but independent. (no annexes, granny flats etc)

So looking @ pleasant town, nice park, decent range of shops, health care, public transport, friendly people.
The sort of place that people pass the time of day with you while exchange pleasantries.

A bit like Kenilworth really biggrin but better range of housing stock. Kenilworth is either estates of 60/70/80/90s or very expensive for anything of character.

Say £500k for us and £200k for MIL (a flat would be ideal)

I've seen him in a local restaurant a while ago, didn't know he was Southam, I kinda heard Leamington.

I just moved from Coventry to Lutterworth, it's quite pleasant and you don't get Warwickshires obsession with speeding, fantastic pubs and restaurants in every village, easy access to the M1 and M6.

Some nice gaffs going up too..

That Dunnington house isn't isolated really - I'd far rather live there than in Alcester, and it's only 5 mins from the Waitrose in Alcester anyway. Although if you are considering Alcester, Oversley Green is where I'd choose to live and an easy walk into town.

From your recent posts you're more interested in house than location (as I was when I moved from Kenilworth 8 years ago, when I got divorced). I'd suggest towards Evesham, either side of the Avon (Harvington is nice, nearly bought a place there last year). Honeybourne and Bidford have too many new houses going up, but they're still worth considering if something interesting comes on the market.

Or how about Shipston on Stour?

Yes the house is driving the move, although it needs to be a place that'll work for us. Small town or large village with facilities, walking distance to stuff, good public transport links.

We had our offer accepted on a Kenilworth house back in February, (and accepted an offer on ours) the house would suit us very, very well, we're prepared to wait. However the vendors are struggling to find somewhere, and I can see the whole thing going milky. Nothing that floats our boat locally has come onto the market so considering options.

You can't get much nice in Leek Wootton with parking and garden etc for 500k. We had a look down Hill Wootton Road and were expecting them to come in around 5-600k but they're all 800 or so!

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...

Is about the best you can do, but it's not huge. Looks beaut in real life though and very well located.
.
Just rereading this thread.

We viewed the place in Leek Wootton in 2002 before buying our present house, cute but really tiny, a friend also viewed it and reckoned it was haunted!

I do notice it changes hands regularly!

Some lovely places out that way, good value as well, we have friends in Congerstone.

For family reasons the search criteria is restricted to Kenilworth.

I was out riding yesterday and part of the ride took us West to South West of Kenilworth around the Rowington, Kingswood, Chadwick End, Temple Balsall, Honiley, Wroxall, Leek Wootton areas and there looked to be some nice properties around there!

Its certainly very nice but you'll not get much for your money. Orange Tree in Chadwick End always used to be good for lunch.

As a youth my time was spent blasting along that road in my Mini Cooper with my mates. We used to run time trials between Knowle & the island just past Wroxall before you get to the A46, until one pal ran out of talent just past the Black Boy pub and his dad had to come down and pull him and his mums Metro out of a hedge.... game over biggrin

Pershore, Alcester, Bideford on Avon? Leamington and Warwick are obvious. Henley in Arden, Hockley Heath, Meriden, Dorridge.

Thanks to all the contributors biggrin

Settled on Wilmecote, close enough to SOA/Henley/Alcester to satisfy Mrs PR, good transport connections (M40/A46 Train & Bus)

Ruralish and quiet enough to satisfy me, dog walking and 2 x friendly pubs.

Current house (mostly) packed, completion 1st August.

Congratulations. Have you exchanged now?

I went way outside my original search area; completed at the end of June on a place just outside Cheltenham.
