£500k = approx $640k here.

Not a lot frown
Conversely, about 5500 sq.ft. here.
As I'm sure is the case in your area it's hugely area dependent - on the island property is just silly money. Go a little way out and the prices fall off a cliff.

Here, the area tends to define the size of house which then defines the price. There's not so much of a London effect, though a recent population increase does mean that house prices are climbing.

Where abouts in CO are you if you don't mind me asking? It's always been one of those places I have a romanticized idea of what living there would be like - mountains and skiing in the winter, hunting/fishing/4-wheeling in the summer etc.

I guess I could slum it here if I had to

Maybe a bit too much gravel for my liking, but the garage would appease me.

Also ignore the offers over £485K. No one offers over the asking price in the area I live in.

Blinds in the glass?

Been with the Mrs for 12 year so unless a voyeur can get excited about a middle aged bloke in Elf (at christmas) PJ's and Mrs Uggers pink flannel onesie then they'd be sorely disappointed. smile

My house, well actually not quite now looking at it.

Youd get 4 beds, a single or maybe double garage, a smallish garden. Im half way between Southampton and Portsmouth in a not really London commute location although it seems quite a few do do it, but I wouldnt.

Parker, just SE of Denver.. Utterly suburban; far from the ski resorts, fishing holes and hunting areas. In spirit at least. Not a long drive to any of them, really.

5 bedroom 17th century farmhouse near Chorley lancs...

Just to give an idea on 'normal' housing, our village located 1885 3 bed stone semi detached house, with loft conversion that has a staircase access, cost £117k 2 years ago. Needs a bit of tlc, but nothing major..

We're on a quiet side road that overlooks fields...80k mortgage over 20 years is currently £390p/m... I can't ever imagine moving south.. Happy as a pig in st here..

Anything east of the front range looks just like kansas, anything West of the front range is awesome.

Probably like a lot of areas, mine (Surbiton KT6) is massively variable,

Asking prices do seem to have come down a bit recently, so a decent 2 bed flat in the 'good bit' is definitely back in view for under £500k.

Two miles down the road, still in the same postcode, 3-4 bed semis can often cost less.

There isn't a lot in the 500k bracket round here.

£360k gets you 5 beds, 15 acres, and 2 miles of fishing rights.

Only a semi though, so ahhmmm ooot spin

Blimey. It IS a shame it's a semi, though, when it has all that land. I take it planning permission for a detached abode on its land would be impossible to obtain? You could spend your 500K by building a detached property a short distance away and then sell the house, minus the land which you'd keep. Very nice.

In West Yorkshire you get quite a lot for your money

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...

My house is a 4 bed detached in outwood on a corner plot we bought it for £170k back in 2013 and it's now apparently worth 240-250

Nice pub round the corner too, and nature reserve a mile down the road.
There's also this just up the road in Fairburn. I know the owner as he used to be my landlord for a time. Been trying to sell it for nigh on six years.

He built a house before this one, then bought more land and built a bigger house. I ended up renting the other one off him for six months, you can see it in the background of the outside shot.
They're both half built into a hill so a quite deceptive in terms of size.
