Exactly ! Why work for people on their terms only . Those of us that are good have no problems . Our Clients not only trust us , they need us . So are happy to pay to reserve our time etc .

Haven't seen the Beckhams for a bit . Nice people etc but not clients . So why not mention their names . And it's a lovely Porsche . Some of us roll in different ways with different people .

I've got a guy lined up to start my small 2 storey extension next week.

It's a 30k job... Foundations are already in.

He wanted 10k up front. Another 10 at 1st floor and the final 10 when the roof and internals were sorted. Not happy with that so suggested...

Nothing up front.
5k when up to dpc
5k when up to 1st floor
10k to wall plate level
8k when roof on
2k when all done n dusted.

He was ok with you that.

Sound alright to you lot??

Better than 10K up front presumably from a builder you've never used!

Sounds pretty reasonable to me to be honest! Maybe slightly more as a final payment, but if you are happy with his quality of work throughout the project, I'd be ok with that.

fking hell mate, crawl out your own arse will you. You're not exactly a specialist brain surgeon. You're performing home improvements for people that are well off enough to pay someone else to it do rather than bother themselves

Bloody hell that is a name from the past !

He was great fun and probably a lot more honest than most :-)

And no I don't do "home improvements"

What I do ,people pay me to do as they are never going to be able to do it themselves . It's all quality stuff

What do you do though?

By what you wrote yesterday on that Radiator thread, it sounded like you were a plumber.

He must be Corgi registered meaning he can install a boiler which buddying DIYers aren't legally able to do! Real artisan stuff!

Looks like we're going to have to pay up front for his sentences now.

Good on you OP. You've managed to cultivate a client list prepared to pay for your services up front. Why you are surprised this model doesn't apply to all operations and in all circumstances is a little perplexing.
