So for jobs £1k-£19.9k you won't accept deposit and staged payments? Good for you if your clients are happy with this arrangement, personally though I wouldn't be.
Yes thats correct.

Im a sparks who specialises in high end refurbs. My first day on the job normally entails me marking out and first fixing cables, most of which are normally on the van or held as stock in my lock up.
Payment amount is agreed before hand so when i arrive in the morning the client usually makes a transfer there and then.
I generally don't deal with idiots, all my work is word of mouth or through some of my builder contacts.

What quality stuff is it that you do though? For your clients.
Quality private "stuff" :-)

Today was sorting out the subfloor for a kitchen that is nearly finished . . Its a bit "left field" as it will have very thick leather flooring. Concrete covered units including the doors etc .Works tops will Copper . Concrete has been a funny one , Its only 3mm thick but added a lot of "issues". But we found the right mix and application .

I'm an aerospace engineer.

Today a special client asked us to design them an engine made from cheese and cardboard, compressor blades were interesting, as these were made from livestock bones, and the gearbox from pixie farts, but we got it to work.

See, I can do it too.

Why you are surprised this model doesn't apply to all operations and in all circumstances is a little perplexing.
Yes, 25% up front may not go down too well in the estate agent market place!

3mm thick concrete on cupboard doors that won't crack or fall off?
I'd go with a stiff custard mix personally, with some glitter and 100's and 1000's sprinkled on.

Depends on how its formulated and what it is applied to and the look the client wants etc etc

Think thats weird. Years ago I did one of "legs and co" ( Her husband was the biggest coke head I have ever seen) bathroom. The whole bloody lot walls /floors and bath/shower etc in Black Un stirred Hammerite paint which is very "cobweb" looking when not stirred . Despite warning her , It took FFNN ages for the smell to go :-)

Are you self employed one man band or a ltd company?

If ltd how many staff do you have, how many years trading and what assets are in the business?

What if you became ill, or died?

If you are a big ltd company, trading since 1995 and having many staff and assets such as a big company like b and q then a deposit would be ok.

If youre a self employed one man band then no way would impay a deposit

Suddenly that trust you mentioned earlier seems to have evaporated!

We work in some pretty nice places and for "famous/rich" people. I've never had that level of restriction placed on me. I guess they trust me not to put pictures of me wearing their underwear on facebook.
