Thanks for the reply. I think from the sizes you gave in your opening post, you had just over 31sqm. of roof ... I think we have about 28sqm so 10% less roughly. Can you say what percentage you got off their first price? Will help to know as every little helps as the ad says.

Any pics of the new roof?

Glad you got sorted, As others have said it seems to be like double glazing salesman of 80's. There are so many companies doing it and using different materials and methods.

There was a company in my neck of the woods started doing conservatory roof conversions. They advertised everywhere, in every local shopper, newspaper, adverts on the radio, flyers through the door. They were undercutting similar companies by up to 50%.

After about two years they went bust owing hundreds of thousands and when a local journalist did a bit of digging. They found their premises to be nothing more than a lock up garage. They had basically been undercutting rivals because they were selling at near cost and making bugger allprofit. They had everything on the never never with suppliers.

The two owners also took about 50 deposits for work they never completed.

Before:

Decapitated ...

New roof on with cornicing...

Insulated...

Plastered and lights fitted...

Finished (almost, a couple of wall lights needed to bolt up when this pic was taken but that's done now)

Not really clear because we had the roofline and windows done by the same company at the same time and it was all lumped in together so the prices have been manipulated a bit on the invoice, maybe 5% off form the initial quote I suppose but we did tweak the spec as well.

We went with the Ultraframe option, got a little bit knocked off the initial quote and had some additional cornicing put around the outside to hide the gutters (made a difference to the look of the conservatory outside, worth it).

We use the room lots more now, particularly during lockdown - Once the study and breakfast table had been claimed for home schooling, I was working from the dining area in the conservatory, could never have done this with the old roof, it would've been too hot with too much glare.

Wasn't tge cheapest option, but 100% happy with it.
It is useful to see a recent review. I am getting quotes for tiled roof replacement for otgerwise solid conservatory (with 2 side walls) in south facing aspect. Has a feeling of an extension (and good size room) but with glass roof. Thr tinted glass top that our installer (years back now well past warranty) said wpuld be as warm as other rooms in winter and it clearly is not. And problems with leaks over the years as well as flies getting trapped in top ledges. Summer is ok when doors and windows open but glare is strong and fabrics fade. The ultraframe option is pricey but am told much cheaper than extension rebuild and will transform room so it will function like others (as warm and insulated in winter and same temps as others in summer). Now that we've have special glass roof I am skeptical of claims tgat they are just as good as wall/roof insulation - clearly not.

I’m in the process of having my partially-knackered polycarb conservatory roof replaced with a Guardian warmroof at the moment.

The conservatory is 4.5 x 3.5m and I’m getting a pair of glass panels and 8 led lights in the roof. Had a couple of quotes and finally haggled the price down to £11,000 with my preferred supplier. I doubt the whole conservatory cost that when it was built 15 years ago, but I’m looking forward to this making the room a lot more usable. I’ve got a pair of rads in there so I can just about keep on top of it in the winter (though it’s astonishing how quickly the room cools down when the heating goes off and all the heat just floats through the roof) but there is not much to be done with it in the summer. It’s been like a furnace the last few days, even with all the windows and doors open.

I don’t mind the noise from the rain too much but I shan’t be sorry to see (hear) this go either.

Following with interest - wife now wants our conservatory roof changed. Admittedly, it did get to 48degrees in those hot days a couple of weeks back. We currently have a aluminium and all glass conservatory, planning was granted 25years ago for it, but I struggle to believe its that old, so may have been re-done before we moved in 6years ago.

Problem is, it just leads onto the next job... it'll reduce light into the lounge, so we'd want to make the patio doors wider. Which knocks onto the (expensive) carpet. Which knocks onto re-doing the entire lounge...
