Spilt cream on carpet.

We've spilt cream on a carpet, a few days back, it now stinks, I left baking soda on it overnight, to no avail.

Suggestions?

That, or cut the bit of the carpet out that stinks and stick it in the washing machine, then nail it back down once clean?

This, it's 'orrible the stuff that comes out of the carpet. Or buy one for £200 and use it every 6 months/share it round the family which is what we do.
