Hello all,
Long time lurker, first time poster and all that...
I know we all love a good progress thread so thought i'd throw up some progress photos of what i've been unto the last few weeks in my back garden.
Me and Soon-to-be-Mrs-Jack bought the house, a 1960's semi 3 years ago, which following this a full refurb ensued (re-wire, new CH, full back to brick re-plaster, kitchen, bathrooms, woodwork etc.) which meant the garden was neglected.
It started life when we bought the place like so (minus the sheds, these were the photos from when we viewed the house before we got the keys):
then over the past few years went down hill, especially with a puppy destroying the grass.
Enough was enough and i decided to start by pulling down the trees:
It was a massive PITA so decided to invest in a chainsaw for the job at some point through the process:
...and 4 vans full of just trees to the local Tip later i was left with this:
Just under 5 tons worth of slabs lifted and skipped (only one broken finger in the process):
Once this was complete, the turf came up, the garden dug out and a small forest worth of sleepers laid and concreted into position:
7 tonnes of type 1 MOT going in (despite the torrential conditions) :
3 tonnes of sand screed going in:
Top patio started (indian sandstone):
Lower patio started, new drainage channel fitted (into storm drains) and step installed:
Patio being finished and artificial grass installed:
Jointing compound in, borders filled with fresh topsoil and nearly finished (this is where i'm up to today):
Still have the boarders to do, replace the kitchen waste pipe with black, replace the lean to door with a PVC door and a fence panel to change but otherwise really pleased with it, especially considering i'd never laid a slab, used a chainsaw or done any landscaping prior to this!

The artificial grass is perfect for me, especially with a dog, saves muddy paws and isn't destroyed by her in more ways than one. Plus no mowing or weeds!
My dad has a business supplying and installing this so had him in to do this. The prep of the ground and laying is somewhat of a fine art to make it last so better have someone else take the responsibility here

as a lawn specialist you would be surprised how often I come across 'fake' grass and often people have both, like in this situation with the dog its great, and in some areas grass will just not grow, however I'd back up the point above, Ive seen some great jobs and some truly awful (both diy and professional) to get it done right may not be cheap but theres no point in doing something like that on the cheap, I often still have to weedkill customer fake grass aswell as the real one!The artificial grass is perfect for me, especially with a dog, saves muddy paws and isn't destroyed by her in more ways than one.
