Don't see that bond much these days.
I can relate to this. I have commitment issues and it's all getting too technical for me.

Looks like mission complete. Francesca is happy. Job done.

Enjoy your summer. I'm off to build a hot tub in an afternoon on Friday.

Julian that's a great result by your team and yourself. Very satisfying . Have you been managing to work also?

Can you tell me a bit about your house brickwork please?

It looks like cavity on the lower section then after the courbe brick it seems 9inch solid.(steady there Gretchen).
Or is it cavity with false header bricks cut in half? Don't see that bond much these days.

Are you going to put a render plinth on those lower brick courses? From the photos they look like common fleton bricks.

Looking forward to seeing the finished project.

Top work by all involved .
Hi. The house has very nice brickwork with architectural detail on all elevations.
Unfortunately the ground levels have been reduced in the past and where the pool is situated there are just common bricks up to the blue bricks with a 30mm plus joint showing.
We have discussed this with Julian and we recommend brick slips some time when he has recovered from the shock to his bank of the pool and landscaping.
The house was constructed without cavities and the brick work below the Blue bricks is a minimum 350mm wide.

The brick bond is Flemish- Header/Stretcher/Header/Stretcher repeat. The headers go through front to back.
I've not measured the wall thickness but as the house is very well built it may be 3 brick widths wide.

The main chimney has lovely detail and there are specials on the final course below gutter level.

Likewise - total achievement and max dad points!

Was wondering about the potential cost of converting a pond that was once a pool at a house I'm looking at. Was going to pm lrdisco but others may be interested? Could be a new thread "buying a house with a water feature that was once a pool and turning it back into a pool. IN JUST 3 YEARS!" smile

Thanks Nick. I can't make out the dpc. Is it the higher thick bed above the commons?(slate) or the black line down near the new drains?

Are you thinking slips on those four courses of commons? Or up to the blues?

I've seen a slate grey tile used for that purpose.

Nothing like some risky fun to keep one on their toes... I'm going in with one day and a £400 budget to include hot tub, wooden frame surround, steps, lighting, planting and a bottle of wine wink I'll be naked under the stars by midnight.

The DPC level is I think in the really thick mortar bed. I am not on site now so can not check.
There are 4 courses of solid bricks going up around the paving to hide some of the bad brickwork and if Julian goes ahead with the slips they will be from the same bricks we use.

Photo shows some of the detail and specials.

Thank you, but that is way too kind.

I think I am quite an average Dad. Lucky enough to be able to build the pool, but it is the simple everyday things that matter more.

Nick is not an average contractor though. If you are lucky enough to actually get him, you can sleep at night knowing it will be a brilliant job.

Thanks again,

Julian

Looking really good. Interested to see how the jets add to it when they are commissioned.

When I am back we need to have a drink whilst looking in to the water on a night and just thinking about what has been done.
Its been great working with you.

Have a brilliant holiday Nick, relax!

We will certainly have a few beers in (and around) the pool when you get back.

Cheers mate,

Julian

What happens if one of the light bulbs blow or the light stops working? Do you you have to drain it so the water is below the light fitting in order to replace it?

Nah. He'll just build another pool. It will only take 2 weeks next time as he already has the plant and oil heating ready to go smile
