Good evening,

As the title suggests - has anyone used the Floplast cast effect guttering before? It seems to be readily available quite cheaply but I've never seen it in the flesh.

I've got two bays to do as they don't match the house - the house is all cast and both bays have some awful deep section 80's upvc. I can't stretch to cast replacements, and I was hoping that if the plastic version looked good, I would replace some of the grottier cast guttering with it at a later date.

I've had a quick price up and I think it would be about £140 per bay with the Floplast. That's against £200 for Brett Martin stuff and about £300 for the Heritage Aluminium gutter from MKM. I know the Brett Martin will be better, but then for the extra £100 per bay I'd be inclined to go for the Ali stuff which removes the whole point of saving some ££ in the first place!

Any help much appreciated.

Floplast is an adequate replica in terms of shapes and textured surface, but looked a bit plasticy to me. Colour choice is a bit limited!

You pretty much get what you pay for and it depends what is 'good enough' as any of them will still be an improvement.

We looked at both Floplast and Brett Martin - Brett Martin were (and I guess still are) streets ahead.

Not sure where you are getting your prices from, but when Brett Martin priced the materials up for me ( I live bout 20 miles from one of their sites), they initially couldn't beat this supplier on price! In the end they did price match them.

Not sure how they'd compare now, but definitely worth a look.

I've used a lot of the Brett Martin cast iron effect stuff before, it looks good, miles better than plastic , passable as cast iron perhaps from a distance but up close as you would imagine it's clear it's not cast iron.

I wish I'd known about that before replacing the guttering on my veranda. Will certainly use it for the front of the house when we do it next year though.
