Why do you need an earth rod?

Why type of earthing system do you have in the house?

TT, TNC-S, TNS?
My current garage has an earth rod and I am making an assumption that this would also need one.

If memory serves we were advised to put one in by the electrician when he did some work on my house.

The sparky vultures are circling you Mr bakerstreet. Don't you show any weakness or they'll be swooping in to peck your eyeballs out. wink

I assume the high horse is standard issue once you qualify. Comes as part of a package along with new batteries for your megger tester as they're flat from zapping your mates. Oh and one of those little light up screwdrivers that you leave in the bottom of your toolbox to remind you of how superior you are to any DIYer.
They can circle all they like and I welcome any constructive comments and advice. I've put more thought an effort into my design when compared to Mr single post OP.

Light up screwdrivers?? I thought they all; had voltage pens these days biggrin (I have one. Quite useful for checking sockets and similar)

My Electrician is one of the quietest trade people I have ever used and thats even when he is correcting one of my mistakes. Most of the others will grumble and moan their way through the day given half the chance.

You tell me, the only one on a high horse here appears to be you wink

Questions were asked, answers given. Bakerstreet comes across as someone who is aware of his limitations and will take a sensible view as to what to do himself and what to trust to a electrician so I am struggling to see what your problem is?

Naaahhh it'll be fine.

Just bung a 20A in the house CU and dont worry about the safety aspect.

Much, much easier to sign up to a motoring forum rather than get someone who knows what they are doing to see the job first hand.
Quite. For a proper beasting, the OP needs to post his question on the Screwfix Electricians' forum.
Missed your post.

I didn't know Screwfix had a forum.

The only electrical forum i belong to is the IET.

They have a much higher standard of member.
