Nonsense; go for it: "You can't get anywhere unless you're willing to take a risk." The saying dates back to Chaucer (c. 1374) and is similar to the late fourteenth century French proverb: "Qui onques rien n'enprist riens n'achieva" (He who never undertook anything never achieved anything) The proverb was included in John Heyword's collection of proverbs in 1546. First cited in the United States in 'Letters and Papers of Cadwallader Colden.

As far as I'm aware, Chaucer wasn't noted for his building skills?

Although he probably knew more about it than some of the clowns we get posting on this forum...

Happy for people to have a stab at it but the OP is asking an extremely basic question. I obviously hope the OP does well and is happy with the outcome, any more questions just ask!

However it would be like me attempting an engine rebuild and not knowing what an air filter is!!

This, being serious.

There comes a point where you have to say "if you need to ask the question, perhaps you should be paying someone competent to do it for you".

We all have to learn, but it makes sense to master walking before you try to run.

'If you never made a mistake, you never made anything', attributed to the guy who built this apparently.

Install a joist 2400mm from the wall, then subsequent joists every 400mm either way from the centre of it; that will work for chipboard t&g and also 2400 x 1200 plasterboards and give you a nice solid floor. Google 'noggins' as well.
