Furnishings are well thought out. Nice wood floor and lighting. Not sure about a black kitchen.

I'm not saying the York house is the last word in good taste, I just think the adjectives used were hyperbolic. Disgusting, horrendous etc...

It's also unfurnished, so some character would easily added with a splash of colour and decent furnishings such as yours.

Thanks. It's dark green - photos are too contrasty.

I think the point was that the York house isn't really property p0rn. It can't be if done to such an average standard inside. To be on this thread (in my mind) a house has to eiother be special on its own (architecture, location etc), or beautifully designed internally. The York house is neither (IMHO).

You are right disgusting isn’t the word. Just the opposite of my tastes and a ridiculous shame given what they had to work with.

Can’t believe 400+ psf is the market price in York for a refurbed 3300 ft2 terrace

1.5m would surely buy a substantial property and grounds.

You’d get a nice refurb or new build in prime South Bucks for a similar amount psf

Some crazy things happen in york.

These were done a couple of years back. All sold AIUI fairly quickly

Everyone's taste is different. No point in bickering. This is one of the more sensible threads on PH after all.

Perhaps I shouldn't comment... Probably my favourite house I've seen on here was the Swiss chalet on the Thames with a gaudy Asian influenced interior with a beach on the ground floor! hehe

Now it's disgusting too? FFS. How ridiculous.

Please advise me which socialite magazine your country estate is being featured in this month, so I can marvel at your good taste.
Finalist in the Evening Standard awards, by the way. So whilst not exactly Country Life, I feel I get the right to criticise. tongue out
Wow congrats! Your build thread was just great.

I was talking to a developer about York quite recently, mentioning how prices within the city had escalated. Previously, if you 'had money' you would move to the very nice outlying villages and get somewhere with land. Now there has been an upsurge in demand for townhouses from people moving from London and want to retain urban living. This has been further helped by the improving London rail times and the increasing demand for the public schools in the city.

Interesting . The Savills listed places above were on at about 350 psf asking ... guess sold for slightly less ..

Still kinda surprises me there is much of a market for 1.5m in Yorkshire ... but if it’s ex London money .. makes some sense

This is right (although it is the increased frequency of trains rather than the increased speed: the quickest train now is slower than it was when I first moved to York).

The town house prices (and quality and size) aren't Eaton Square, but there is definitely increased interest in such properties and plenty of scaffolding up on those that have recently changed hands in and around The Mount / Bootham and similar.

I am quite interested to see what happens to this one that is currently offices

Last year I posted a place in Florida up for nearly $30M. I saw a gradual asking price reduction over the year to about $27M. Apparently this has now sold for only $13.5M.

That is some drop..... at least 50%. Is that normal for these mega houses? Assuming the agent advised in the value I would be fairly annoyed!!

I suppose this is proof speculative offers sometimes work.... whatever the price!

Quite seriously considering a two-house strategy given the near-impossibility of finding a decent townhouse that isn't on a gridlocked main road.

Weekdays, to avoid the school run and to keep in touch with city life.

Well after watching quite a few episodes of Million Dollar Listing LA I feel I'm now an expert on such matters...

With these houses if you go in high you risk the listing going stagnant, continued small reductions don't interest the realtors and buyers think there's an issue, your buyer pool is limited at these prices.

If you find you've priced to high you need a dramatic reduction to gain interest and traction.

As you can see I've picked up the lingo.

It seems you also need an over the top themed party and to have a loud argument in the middle of the party with another realtor as well as the reduction.

Joking aside, with the benefit of hindsight, a dramatic drop might have made them substantially more and saved the overheads. Hard pill to swallow at the time though.

I've viewed that - I quite liked it but my wife nixed it as the traffic sits right outside at the lights and also around the back. The garden was grabbed and built on, though you could make something work with what's left. It's TOO large really - who really wants/needs a 40+ foot drawing room on the first floor? To get to the top floor bedrooms you have to use the back staircase which would render you a very long way from your children upstairs if you were in the kitchen. Structurally it's in good nick and most of the work is updating services and so on, nothing obviously terrible.

It wasn't a speculative offer - the listing says "Live, on-site. No Reserve, Absolute Auction and will be sold to the highest bidder." A $200,000 deposit was required upfront before bidding.

Quite PH worthy - garaging for 30 cars. Apparently it was sold fully furnished too.

It's completely awesome, but running a place like that doesn't bear thinking about. Imagine the electricity bill for the a/c!

I'd be fairly happy in the coach house if I got the garage / workshop, but I suspect the main house would be a better family home. Victorian Rectory anyone?

Some very nice parts of York but I am always surprised at how expensive it is.

Quite like this place in Bridgnorth, big garden as well considering its right in the town
