Not quite porn in its own right, but very pleasant.

Former home of DH Lawrence and later Michael Morpurgo outside St Ives makes it rather interesting.

Better to say 'manageable' rather than 'small' but here's a Grade 1 manor on the southern fringes of Dartmoor. Claaaarssy, innit?

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/s6p/67093978

Reckon it will either go within a fortnight or be on sale for two years.

It does rather take the gloss off...

Grade 1 listed - I'd say the latter time scale. I dread to think the hoops you'd have to jump through to maintain that. It's a beautiful house but it could rapidly become a millstone.

the sheer number of seemingly amazing places posted on here that have a traveller site/nuclear power station/slaughterhouse within metres is staggering. Google Earth is a godsend to avoid wasted trips. Not that I've got the money to buy any of these places anyway, but the same applies my stty ended estate banding i guess.

This seems to be a nice example of a thatched Devon long house...

Anyone familiar with "Dawlish Warren" might be able to guess what might be it's potential downfall...

(They're static caravans, of the holiday variety.)

I've not been down that road in a long time, although we did stay on one of the camp sites for a night earlier in the summer holidays, and go to Scott May's Stunt Show a week ago. Dawlish Warren serves a purpose. It's nice to visit in the winter and walk along the wall to Dawlish, and the beach is sandy for the dog. Going in the arcades for a winter warm up is fine too, for a few minutes. But would I want to live there? Nope.

I like to try and see the positives in places as well. I like to have a balanced view, but I couldn't live within 3 miles of the place.

This, on the other hand, I could cope with:

I like it. Needs a bit interior stuff here and there. But It’s a bit of me.
I thought that it looked fine, if my numbers came up, I’d check it out,
but then I Googled Matfen, and oh no, back to reality.

It may need a bit of a tidy up and is probably a bugger to keep warm. Grass needs cutting, 7 acres, 2 more houses in the grounds. Must be haunted.
An offer for £700k has been made apparently.

It's close to where my mum's godmother used to live in a little chocolate box cottage and near the lovely Cliffe Castle but unfortunately the surrounding area isn't what it once was nor is the town itself.

I used to live about 100 yards away from this place. It's very private but was used as a school for learning difficulties kids through the 70's to the mid 90's then was near abandoned for more than a dozen years. The Arts and Crafts gradens were plundered for their ornate stonework by a previous gardener and multitudes of leaks and bizarre modifications inside the house to facilitate its use as a school. I though it had been last sold to a developer who wanted to turn it into apartments.

Was thinking the same. Is there more than one Matfen? The one I know is a lovely little village.
