Very much the wrong side. I lived opposite for nearly 10 years!

If you like that kind of thing there are 8 houses the "right side". One is National Trust, the other 7 are private. One owned by a car dealer (okay he owned a national chain of dealerships), another by a very good music producer, another by a chairmain of a multinational construction co. and another by a retired racing driver. One more by a Dame and another by a fruit processing family. The last one is "still in the family" and the last is now now a private split ownership. There are a couple more hidden out the way, ie. <£5m, one of which is an amazing Bond type house that still has river access at low tide, full tide you could use a mini-sub smile

My personal favorite is on the "wrong side" and a bit upstream towards Sharpham. Lottery win needed to buy it, excavate 1000sqm underneath and put in main services though!
Very interesting, thanks for that. Out of interest, what makes it the "wrong' side?

Barn conversion near Angouleme. Possibly a bit “what will the future be like” 10 years ago, but for a bolt hole I think it would be cool.

^ That house isn't to my taste, but I do like the in-flight bald eagle shot. Wonder if it is genuine or superimposed?
Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not but assuming you mean the one with the fish I'm pretty sure no photoshop was required as the eagles are as real as the bears climbing the tree in the following pic.
I meant in the photo in minimoogs post 5 posts above my question.

Never mind, the moment has passed.

Low ceilings, high maintenance exterior and £500,000 per bedroom?

Stupid southern silly prices.

It's on the south side of the river so you can't sit in the sun and enjoy the view to the north. Well you can here because it has a huge plot, but it would be nicer if the house was on the north side facing the river view to the south.

...but compare and contrast with this Portuguese offering I stumbled upon.

https://www.rightmove.co.uk/overseas-property/prop...

What's going on? I presume it's a scam by one or t'other?
That is weird. Particularly as both have this "For this item is subject to a minimum price of €4.5 million,--k.k. At an opening bid of that amount you will receive a counteroffer and start the negotiation. The investment made by the owner is well above 6 million."

I suspect that you will have to place a deposit...

just around the corner from me, - typical estate of wooden sheds with posh interiors, started out selling them at £800k each and now they are up at £2-3m, you can buy houses with their own lake for less than that!

very typical nonsense designed to fleece the rich, their website talked about the local shops being Dalesford (45 minutes away, and plenty of good shops locally), all about being a part of the 'country set' in a fake way, they have been trying to build a 'visitor' centre at the lakes and a 130 bed hotel, which will no doubt reduce the appeal, all about money... I used to supply the tennis coaching to them, they took every opportunity to add fees to everything...

wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, it is not the real Cotswolds, amd owners would be assumed to be N.R. and probably not included in local society, so a waste of money all around...

Nice. If living in a municipal badminton court is your bag.

No external shots? I suspect it's a warehouse conversion rather than a barn conversion.

"Betwern Angouleme and Limoges" covers a pretty huge area

Probably too close to Sittingbourne for some tastes, but this has to be the grandest £1.5 million residence in the south-east.

I haven’t seen the link but I’m guessing this is the old Yoo development?

I went to look at the peasants development on the lake next door. It was a frightening place. Soulless and with a strong whiff of South London, remortgage socialista. It had gated communities within gated communities segregation by wealth. It was mostly empty. It was beginning to look very tired. They had anti car policies and all sorts of lifestyle restrictions.

As you say, it’s not the Cotswolds. It’s a gravel pit on the M4. It’s not near Daylesford or Soho Farm House. It’s not near anything for Londoners.

Sittingbourne is a sthole but thats far enough out to not be too affected and you could shop in Maidstone which is marginally better.

Some lovely pubs and walks in that area too
