Outside of London this time. A period seven bedroom riverside house in Upton-Upon-Severn. £795k (under offer)

That's very nice. I wonder if the walls are bare brick because the plaster has been stripped off to allow them to dry out after all the flooding? laugh

Owner likes his pine, but that's great value for money. Lovely place.

Bar the obvious pine show and the (presumably faux) brick wallpaper in the bedroom, I'd say that it's lovely.

I have been looking at London places just out of curiosity to see what's listed and how much stuff is and so many of the properties have the 'Vault' located under the pavement. If you look on the floorplans, lots have lower ground / basement levels with a vault area that seems to stick out the front. V weird.
It’s where the coal was stored, via the hole in the pavement that’s often still there.

I'm sticking my sticky-out bits out here and saying real bricks.

Yeah, I know about the coal shoots. It's just weird that they mark it on a floorplan as a 'vault' when in reality there's probably a nice big hole leading right into the space. Seen it when at a friends place in Wandsworth, there was a man hole style cover with a shaft leading into the basement.

However, on some floor plans it seems like a whole room under the front of the house. Wonder if is the same or not.

I'd be inclined to agree, I can't see any repeating pattern.
Looks nice and lots of space, but pine wall paneling is slightly odd.

Looks real to me. Looks like mortar missing in joints between headboard and picture frame.

A couple of points on recent replies:

1. Coal Shutes - an interesting facts about the coal shute covers is that they have different designs for the different suppliers of coal. They used designs because the delivery men often were illiterate, so a picture was better than writing. Also the shutes often ended in a shared space beneath the terrace of houses.

2. The pine wall paneling is the preferred option on walls with no damp-proof course. Painting, or papering the wall causes damp to appear on the inside wall. Better option is to use paneling where air can circulate against the bare brick/plaster.

The GD thread?

Edit, oh, Grand Designs! Hadn't seen that one, saw it in the press, which highlighted that connection. Nice advertising for them!

We've discussed it a couple of times over there - once when it came up for sale on 8th October (several of us having predicted it would be up for sale imminently!), just after the programme, and again today as a result of a tabloid picking up on it. Bob Hope of getting anywhere in the vicinity of asking price.
It's been reduced today to £765,000 from the original £850,000 - https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prop...

It’s a lovely property but every feature that makes it look lovely removes a segment of the buying market.

Realistically, it is a weekend retreat given it’s practicality but at £800 it’s at the premium end of that market and who wants to retreat to Aylesbury on a Friday after a week in Town? The answer is no one.

It’s also a lovely couples’ home. It really doesn’t favour anyone with children. But a young couple firstly is less likely to have £800 and has the Sword of Damocles in knowing that if/when they have children they will need to move. Pensioners who do have £800 will not generally be considering properties that do not assist failing health etc.

The two segments that this seems to leave are a professional male couple of middle age or a professional male/female couple who are too far up their own arses to contemplate having to focus any time or energy on anything other than themselves, so an urban husband & wife architectural or design consultancy etc. biggrin

It’s an incredibly niche, albeit lovely, property.

Some houses in Bath have vaulted cellars in front going right under the road with openings onto a Park the other side.

I used to live close to this, and it was at the beginning of a walk I liked. The A418 that is a (literal) stones throw away is a 'fast road', as in, people go fast down it. It's also VERY busy. And turns into a race track at night. Middle of no where too, but some lovely villages near by. But I'm not want to walk anywhere from it. And for that reason, I'm ooout.

I think that's wonderful, the only thing I don't like is the bathroom, it needs to be more classical.
