I like this place. Drive past it now and again. Was for sale ages ago and sold. Back on the market.

Ruddy hell you get a lot of house for your money in the AIDS capital of the UK. Looks decent although they stopped the refurb after the kitchens which is a shame. Main issue is, sitting on the bidet after my morning ablutions, and the postman rocks up, he'd get quite a sight!
That part of the glass appears tinted from the outside.

Possibly that glass that you can electrically switch

Ps it’s far enough away from the sthole that is donny. Saw three Aston’s, several R8s and a loverly green twisted land rover on a short walk.

There is a fabulous place for sale in mattersey but it’s not on rightmove. Fixer upper but it’s on a river ( Jeremy Clark’s is favourite) with lots of land and three story

Some interesting big properties out there but to be honest, anything more than 1 hour (car) drive distance from Kins Cross or Liverpool station, completely off the discussion for me! biggrin I would rather go abroad and live in europe than, it's better (imho)

Spekaing of dodgy overseas locations, this is not too bad!... laugh

Interesting, but not my idea of home.
Love it. Another link, but no sign of a floor plan:

Also love it.
Wasn’t this on grand designs?

Yep if I win lottery tonight that’s first buy.

But I’m making those steps retractable somehow
This floor plan?

The chintzy interior is completely at odds with the exterior and rather lovely grounds.

I saw this a while back, and couldn't get my head round it. I have a £1m+ in Devon bookmark that sorts by new, and there hasn't been anything that really catches my eye for a while now.

I wonder if people are taking things off the market and waiting for a few months...

Why would you want to drive to either kings cross or Liverpool street anyway.... surly that's not the point of them????

The exterior is quirky if contrived, but the interior was designed by Barbara Cartland vomit

Indeed, I wouldn't dream of driving into London these days, especially not Kings Cross. Indeed I wouldn't even want to live there let alone drive in! However, I am very happy living only 40 mins train from Waterloo with a decent house, large gardens, big garage, some nice country pubs and less than 60 mins from Goodwood and the south coast . That's the whole point surely?

Where in the UK you want to live is a very personal thing, and there's no point trying to understand each others logic.

The vast, vast majority of utterly fabulous houses in this thread are in places you couldn't pay me to live. I love the discussions of the views, traffic noise, nearby amenities and transport links, because we can all agree on what's desirable and undesirable there, and how it might affect prices locally, but in terms of actual placement in the country, I just ignore that completely, because otherwise I find my enjoyment of this thread spoiled by the "that's nowhere near anything I want to live near" factor.

Thats all well and good, but the way I see that would be if you need to take a train you are going to be worse off no?

Say you get a place for 450k outside of London, you and the OH work for a company in London... now excluding kids, etc.

Assume 100k down and 1.8% mortgage.

Now you have the following:

Outside of London
350k mortgage at 1450 per month
2x 350 per month train tickets (being generous as it could be over 400) and not including tube.
1x 300 per month on a car (loan or lease) because out in sticks.
1x 100 per month on insurance
1x 150 per month on fuel
1x 50 per month on servicing (being generous that it might be as low as 600 a year).

so that's 1450 per month plus 1300 per month on travel (will ignore utilities, etc as both will have the same), so your 1300 extra a month will never really ever reduce.. ever.

In london:

350k mortgage at 1450 per month
Now let's add 1100 per month more on that (no need for the expensive train or a car) 200 per month (100 each), will cover tube.

So now the guys in London can have a mortgagable property up to 750k, plus those costs will reduce as its paid off, whereas the ones outside of London will always have to service 1300 extra that will always go up.

neighbours house ( Caymans). Not for sale but rents it out as it's not his main residence. Not my taste but it's worthy of the thread. £9k/night min 5 nights

Agree with your maths but the £750k London property is potentially not as nice as the £450k Home Counties property (especially if you value quiet, low density, generally sociable neighbours etc).

£750k in London gets you what, a 2 bed flat, something like that? Can you get a family house somewhere that isn't rough for less than a million?

Depends what ‘London’ means in this context.

Lots of other intangibles. Fresh air, (often) better schooling, lower crime rate, space to extend, garaging, garden, freehold, etc.
