Caught a would-be burglar in the act! Beefing up security?
Discussion
From what I have learnt deterrence is the best strategy. Every thing you need to know is already well documented.
Good locking windows and doors to RC2 standard. Sliding doors particularly are generally very weak. Window shutters are good although they are expensive to install.
Cameras are a deterrent but generally not great for identification unless you spend a reasonable amount of money and they are placed correctly.
Locked sheds and particularly ladders or potential step ups locked away from physical access.
Exterior lighting although most break-ins are during the day.
So simulating "presence" during the day through, loudly playing radio or TV, random light switching, curtain "twitching" or "animation" etc,
Best is a dog.
I know one person who has movement sensors and cameras set up together with an speaker system which he can "control" from his mobile so that he can address the "intruder". Unfortunately though nobody has yet tried to break in so that he can test it for real.
Good luck. I have unfortunately been a victim once over Xmas and it was pretty stty to come back to the house.

I didn't mess around and had security bars fitted outside on the basement windows. That makes them no entry and no exit. Always think about exit routes as well as entry points and secure those so they can't be opened from the inside.
+1 I would get bars externally windows and doors, or them folding concertina metal shutters internally. Plus a burgler alarm.
I fit a Warning “Speaker” to a PIR sensor ( having lead pinched of out buildings) have a listen

Print a picture of him and stick it in the window / door
If he comes back it will spook him
Take the picture. Print is onto A4 flyers with "This man is a convicted paedophile. BE AWARE!" written on them.If he comes back it will spook him
Them post them on every lamppost/telegraph pole within 6 streets in all directions.
Sit back and wait for vigilante justice

Decent locks, decent alarm (monitored, ADT), SMARtwater is a great deterrent.
CCTV, even dummies are good.
Basically, a decent multilayered blend of visible & not visible deterrents.
ADT, waste of time monitoring an alarm. They’ll charge plenty and do fk all when you need themCCTV, even dummies are good.

Sounds like the missus did a good job of dominating the lightwell, sash window and front garden.
