Buying a house which also has a flat
Discussion
So we’re on the lookout for the next house purchase . We’ve seen a few houses which also have self contained flats which have caught my eye.
Would these be more difficult to purchase (we’ll need a mortgage!) ? From what I can gather they’re on separate titles so 2 sets of council tax etc.
Thanks in advance.

My house had a self contained annex with a kitchen, the annex had been reintegrated by knocking through prior to purchase, our mortgage provider queried it but when we explained how we would reconfigure the property they were fine, we're with Natwest if that's any help.
We didn't know that it can be a problem if a property has two kitchens getting a mortgage so we were quite stressed for a time until the mortgage offer was substantiated.
My neighbour has two adjoining properties, and when I was researching access to my property I discovered he bought both properties using a company he setup, so that might be one avenue if it proves problematic.

We purchased a property with an annex with a view to converting back to one property. It was a massive ballache with the mortgage. In the end we were limited to two lenders that would play ball and we had to demonstrate what we were planning to do and the time frame. It came as a big surprise and as a result was pretty stressful
Similiar thing I seen. Its a flat, with a big back garden, facing hills. The flat came with a small detatched house at the end of the garden, facing the hills, only access was through the flat. Shame because I wanted the house, and would have rented the flat out. Wasnt feasible with access. Shame, it would have essentially left us mortgage free with the rent for the flat. Couple who ended up with it had a disabled son, which then allowed him freedom, but still have his parents there too. Mortgage wise? No clue how that would've worked.
