I needed a new chair for my home office. I purchased this from Amazon

It arrived yesterday and had no gas strut or bolts.

I must admit I lost my rag a bit with Amazon and to my surprise they simply said sorry , keep the chair and we will refund. So fair enough.

I can get a new gas strut for 7 quid off eBay. The question is what bolts are used to put it together ? I've put plenty of these chairs together in my time but can't remember how long the bolts are. Bit of a long shot, but does anyone know what sort of bolts I'd get from screwfix to put it together ? I'm thinking M6 bolts or something like that ?

I meant the bolts to bolt the chair together. The arms to the back and seat etc !

You'll have to try an odd 5mm or 6mm bolt to know the correct thread and then work out what lengths you need. They may well be socket head bolts, with a hex fitting to recess themselves inside the arms etc.

Trip to screwfix to throw myself on their mercy I think. The screws are much smaller than usual.

Almost free chair though !

Look at the parts to be bolted together.
Work out how thick they are.
Add the thicknesses of adjacent parts together.
Add about 6mm for the thickness of a washer and nut.
Order bolts 2mm longer than that.

Search youtube for eliza tinsley chair, seem to be socket cap screws in either 6mm or 8mm.

Your local motor parts shop will usually have a collection of different sizes for a few pence. You could even take the chair there to try them.
