yes best thing we ever bought when replacing our kitchen, definitely worth it if you have a large or growing family...
It's just me and Mrs G in our house and the Quooker is still worth it to us.

Friends of ours installed one in a new kitchen about 4 years ago. They said it was fantastic & one of the best design decisions they made. In fact, I don't know anyone who has installed one who doesn't love it. We are doing our kitchen this year and it was the first gadget thing on the list.

Do we NEED it. No.
Is it useful. Yes.
Can I afford it. Yes.
Get one....

.....It might also make a difference on how you design the kitchen as you no longer have the "kettle" location in the triangle of fridge, tap, kettle and gain some space on the counters if you have a small kitchen.

We`re dealers for Zip HydroTap, Quooker, Heatrae Aquatap and Billi.

Personally I have a Zip and would not be without it.

You can have boiling only, boiling and ambient, boiling and chilled, or boiling, chilled and sparkling.

Once you`ve had one, you won`t know how you managed without it. It`s not just tea and coffee, but also boiling veg, pasta, rice, etc, etc

There`s lots of different options in lots of different styles and colours.

You can buy lots of cheaper ones, but I wouldn`t bother (approx` 30% of our sales are people upgrading from cheap ones)

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions

Reworking our kitchen in the coming weeks & looking for a boiling water tap as part of that so reading this thread with interest.

Ideally looking for a matching pair of mixer tap and boiling tap. So far I've only found Quooker Nordics fit the bill. Other recommendations very welcome smile
We were installing an Axor Stark kitchen mixer over the sink which was a bit of a statement in itself. It's a beautiful tap in it's own right so didn't want to plonk some random boiling tap next to it, hence fitting the Zip in black on the island away from the sink.

I made this short video for another PH'r who also builds bespoke kitchens but it shows the tap and location, if only when it's slightly unfinished!

I'm a Quooker fan as I've had two, but interested to understand your view on what the ZIP offers over the Quooker. Is it simply the chilled and sparkling option?

Thought about adding one but bought a new induction hob and on the highest setting it will boil a pan or kettle of water in no time.

IME an induction hob will be making water from a boiling tap in a few seconds, it'll boil cold water in a minute or so.

I've had induction hobs in my last 2 places; water from the tap will take a few minutes to get to boiling, from the Quooker it's almost instantaneous.

But as others have said, it's the other things that you can use it for, blanching, sterilising, pasta cooking etc. that make it so versatile.

Until you have one you really cannot imagine how incredibly useful they are.

I've just finished doing the landing up and while I had the carpets and floorboards up halfway across the house I've pulled a cable in ready for when I do the kitchen and can have one!

Very true!

Each to their own and all that.
2 minutes doesn't sound a lot, but annualise it and it's circa 12 hours. So over a year it's around £83 an hour. Sounds a lot more palatable...keep it for 5 and you're down to £16 or so an hour, having saved yourself 2.5 full days of watching the kettle boil.
Simple example but you get the point.

I always look at the long term - for me, it's a justifiable cost just for the convenience.
That's genius!
We've had ours almost 8 years. Got it at a much better price....early adopter etc....ours works out between under £7 ph.
You just cost-justified the un-justifiable for me: thanks!!

Also interested in this - do Zips now *boil* ?
I know someone previously said they were good enough, but my reason for ruling it out was based on seeing it at a customer site where they refused to use it for tea, and also that it took the space of an entire 600mm cabinet (the Quooker is a 3litre flask taking up a small part of a 500mm one here!)

Scroll to 1:30 on my video above, Zip do a mini boil now that is vastly smaller. Same industrial standards but in a much smaller unit.

Parents fitted a Grohe boiling tap, delivers 98deg "boiling" water, which is plenty good enough for 95% of tea & coffee drinkers. Works well.

We've got a Quooker Flex going in along with a new kitchen next week so I'll report back. Not entirely sure we need one as we have an Aga as a permanent source of heating water up but there you go.. Looking forward to having filtered water on tap though as we faff around with those Brita jugs currently.

You are right, not quite boiling, but then one should never pour boiling water directly onto tea leaves or coffee grounds. We make dozens of teas a day with ours and they make a perfectly decent brew IMHO.
Agreed - we have zip taps in our office (which supply "boiling" and chilled water). They make a fine cup of tea, and are pretty nifty design.

I'm not sure I'd have one in my house though. Our tapwater is perfectly drinkable, and we'd only be making 2-4 cups of tea a day on average, maybe some water for boiling pasta/potatoes a few times a week.

EDIT - just checked the taps we have at work: Zip Hydrotap G4 Boiling & Chilled. The wrong side of £4,000!

For me, that’s the thing with Zip. You’re buying into the technology that can supply hundreds of people on a daily basis without fault.

Kind of important when you’re cutting a hole in a couple of grands worth of granite.

The Zip supplies water at 99* as standard and variable on higher models (my missus adjusts ours tp 96* for her green tea).

Think about it for a sec, water boils at 100*, have you tried pouring the water out of a kettle as its boiling? It splutters and spits everywhere. If you want a safe and controllable delivery, 99* is what you want.

Should you manage to pour a cup of water at 100*, then pop a thermometer in, it`s a safe bet it`ll be at 99* within a second or two.

Miniboil was a cracking entry point for Zip, but has now been discontinued unfortunately.
