The cladding is the wrong way, Any rain that gets down the back will just come through

Just an update (And in the spirit of all good threads I've mostly ignored you all... biggrin ) got started this week on some cladding. I'm planning to build a roof over the far end and 2/3 of the side wall.

While it's not exactly front-cover material for the glossy propertypr0n mags, I can't help feeling there's some harshness going on...

Perhaps we've all forgotten where it started off?

This is the end of out patio, beside the back door and really needs to be prettier. I'm vaguely planning to build a log store and put some gravel down but need to clad (or cover in some way) the breeze blocks. That's a retaining wall so can't change structurally although I'm about to go out and see if I can remove a course...

It's an improvement on that...

That's broadly what I'd have done. I'd imagine those boards will grey with age and blend in much better with the side of the house. The detailing will either make the whole thing look like a bodge or genius, so it'll be interesting to see how the top of the back wall and the edge of the side wall are finished. Good luck.

I'd have gone for decking boards so flush & tight fitting. Painting in ducksback.

Each their own! smile

yes

You'll need a length of guttering for each plank.

Keep an eye on drainage and watch the potential for wind putting stress on the wall... you prob want to leave a gap between planks and roof to avoid creating a sail and maybe best the space doesn't trap fumes from that boiler flue).... Apart from that if you like and it does the job then who cares smile

Feels to me like the overlap should be the other way, so water between wall and cladding goes down there instead of inside the “store area”.
It is like I’m looking at the outside of the store this way round.
Nice quality looking cladding though, I like it!

Not quite how I would have done it (roofed all of it, decking boards for a flat wall), but a good job all the same!

Top DIYing! beerthumbup

It’s not often you get to see workmanship of that standard, and I get to see a lot of projects.

thumbup Don't worry, in the best PH tradition I'm ignoring anything I don't like.

It's great to get a clear run at it today and do most of the shingles:
