Does anyone use car polish on polished granite to help with light cleaning and appearance.

I realise you can buy dedicated granite polish but I have a load of Autoglym SRP I could use. I have used Quick detailer on the gravestone before which helps give it a shine.

I did read somewhere that putting wax on a gravestone is not a good idea as the stone should be able to "breathe" , would that apply to polished granite as well?

I think the 'breathe' thing probably relates to the fact there will still be some moisture in the stone. Waxing it will seal the moisture in.

The same as why you shouldnt put any of that waterseal stuff on exterior brickwork. You need to let the bricks 'breathe'.

When you polish granite from it's cut state you effectively sand it with finer and finer diamond grit.

Car polish will cut back paint in a similar way (it's just a finer form of T cut).

Car polish cannot cut into granite so any effect will simply be a residue on the surface - however by all means try it - worst case you wipe it off with acetone.

BTW my granite had to be sealed otherwise it changes colour when it gets wet so "breathing" is a nonsense.

EDIT - if you are asking will it remove a build up of dirt - then yes - just like any other abrasive cleaner,
