A bit of a niche question.

I have just purchased an antique mirror frame, which is fitted with a later replacement mirror plate. It seems that the mirror plate has at some stage been cut down to fit the frame and the cut edge was never bevelled, meaning only three of the four sides are bevelled. I want this edge to be bevelled, but am also conscious of the fact that the mirror plate, due to its age (late 1700's), may not withstand the bevelling procedure.

I don't suppose there are any glass specialists on PH who could advise me?
