I've first hand experience of old folks going a bit odd with silly little things like this. Can be a side affect of things like early parkinsons. Stuff that you would normally think nothing of, can suddenly be very important to them and they find it difficult to comprehend common sense. I've learned to cut them a little slack.
And of course, it can't possibly be the younger person that is acting in a somewhat irrational fashion. Can it?
I just thought it was odd, that is all.

The other way to look at it is that for as long as the old boy is alive and kicking he’s going to maintaining your shrubbery and all you ever need to is dispose of the waste. That is a bit of a bargain.

That is a strange place for a tree .
I reckon thats deliberate, to stop people reversing onto 'his' pavement.I also caught him shouting at a takeaway leaflet guy for walking across his grass because he had just watered it.

My bush infront of the estate car. His house is that opposite.
I own the strip of land down the side of the fence.
FWIW it looks to me like a shrub that has been well tended over the years but is now 2 months past a proper trim and which is starting to sprout madly.https://mapstreetview.com/#unlgn_6oav_1l.a_-7f40

If it was mine I'd lop off the new growth as I'd personally try to keep the shape and the density.

I’ll be honest it’s a little bigger that the image now suggests but the drive is probably 1.75 cars wide.
I’d rather the old git had a chat with me TBH, i’m knee deep in doing the house up and if he thinks i’m worried about a bit of greenery over hanging by 3 inches he can suck a fat one.
Reading the thread and your numerous angles on this major situation really does confirm how utterly not worried you are. You really don’t give a st do you? Not a bit, no sireeI’d rather the old git had a chat with me TBH, i’m knee deep in doing the house up and if he thinks i’m worried about a bit of greenery over hanging by 3 inches he can suck a fat one.

You need to disarm him with hyper-friendliness. Assume the role of his best mate; make him feel that he's the best. Ask him his opinion on the relative merits of the Humber Super Snipe and the Ford Zephyr. Invite him to dinner, maybe offer him to come visit your shed and see your porn collection.
And then smash his head in after making him dig up the patio? I’ve been to Essex. This is how they roll. Someone’s Manor has been dissed. Put on a suit, don some gloves, politely rap on his front door, wait until he opens, say 'good afternoon sir, then unleash the biggest canned-air blow horn you can possibly find, as seen on YouTube. Hopefully his heart will explode, then merely close his door back on the latch.
Or get loads of cats. Wait, definitely get loads of cats, ones that like to sh*t on grass! Yeees..
