It would have been fun if he'd said "more than 1.21 gigawatts of energy" for us BTTF fans...

1.6 gigawatts in total if you believe their published figures ( i guess they wouldn’t publish them if it wasn’t true)
I agree, if they stated equivalent to one time travel rather how many kettle boils, i would be more impressedlaugh

a lot of it is shifting of load rather than not generating the power at all.

PR to the lowest common denominator.

Its all a bit of nonsense really isnt it. It has been a bit of fun to do and game the system and earn rewards for that. I understand its all to do with smoothing out the peak demand on the grid but we are not really reducing usage are we, just moving it along to another time of the day. But also those who have truly gamed the system and wasted power just to get a higher score has probably had a negative effect on actual amount used during those days. So saying we have saved many Gigawatts and reduced CO2 to so many trees isnt correct.

anyone wasting energy to make a couple of quid is a dick frankly. if you were going to use it anyway, then fair enough.

it's all valid as the more of the really expensive peaker plants we can avoid using, the better it is for our bills. also, having people consider their energy usage a bit more carefully can't be a bad thing.

I agree, my game was only to charge my car and do some washing which needed to be done anyway, its the stories you hear of people putting large heaters on etc just to increase the load is my gripe. And yes it may reduce the peak demand and reduce the cost of electricity but my point still stands, you are still using the same total (if not more due to innapropriate gaming) GWh's in a day than any other day. So the claimed savings are not really a demand saving overall just at the peak times as that electricity was still used just at a different time of the day when there was less demand and it was easier for the grid to cope.

^^This.

I'll bet this week's power generation was very similar to last week's. It's too difficult to explain "surge" to the masses.

I don't really get why energy price is not variable as to time of day/demand, you could lower the price on forecasted windy days (I presume more electricity is generated when there is wind). With smart meters I am guessing this is possible?

Had the 'Please submit your meter readings' email from Octopus this morning, submitted them around 11am with a further email with my latest bill arriving approx 2 hours later, impressed with that service smile

As an FYI for the above bill - Electric £38.29 and Gas £37.15 for Feb 25 - March 19

I've got them coming out weds to make the smart meters work...3rd time lucky!

Might call them to talk about the tracker tariff. I'm on flexible but haven't seen any movement in costs unless I'm misunderstanding it?

Having switched from Go to IO I have now unplugged my IHD as I noticed that the IHD wasn’t showing the correct pricing. Octopus have emailed to say that IHDs don’t work with smart tariffs.

I have noticed the price of my gas is roughly right on my Tracker tariff even though the IHD doesnt show the actual gas price in the menu. The electricity though is still showing the full 34p.

6 days is quite the long time for them to be crunching the numbers of last week’s savings session.

I've seen it take more than a week before.

In other news my Tracker gas price has dipped below 5p kWh today.

I'm trying to work out if Agile would be cheaper than Intelligent, the figures seem very close.
