My best result ever after gaming the session. Got £6.24 credit but I calculate in the gaming period I used about £3.40 ( some of which ie the car charging I would have normally done during the cheap rate period and so not all gross profit).

February 21 was my best 'saving' yet at 3008 points (or £3.76)

The cost for the day (excluding the standing charge) was £2.09 (tracker) so I made £1.67.

The in day gaming works though so next time the electric underfloor heating in the conservatory is going on as well during the day to skew the numbers further.

6328 points plus I have 100 bonus points left over from last time all worth £8.03 for 'saving' 3.52kWh..
Electricity for the day is saying £3.38, A nice little gain, nearly 1000 points more than last time for putting the dishwasher on.

I used 0.147kWh during the saving session, and as I was at work, 0.344kWh across the 13:30-16:30 window, which means my points will be somewhere in the region of naff all!

Doing the math, I guess I've "saved" 200w or so which equates to around 360 points, plus the 100 extra as a bonus for turning up!
Octopus thought differently it seems! 0.25kWh saved (so slightly more than I estimated) and 448 points plus the 100 bonus.

I'll take that! Can't get the big bucks if you hardly use any to begin with I guess...

Here are the readings from my Smart meter...

Time Reading (kWh)
1230 2.93
1330 2.93
1630 10.61
1730 11.15
1830 11.43
2359 13.55

We are on Octopus Tracker, so the rate is 24.17p per kWh for today.
4504 Octopoints = £5.63

Not bad when you consider that the whole day's usage cost £3.28. biglaugh

Just looking back through my usage during the last session. Unfortunately I missed out on being able to game the system for the first half hour between 1.30 and 2.00pm but did 3 pin car charging, washing machine, dishwasher etc between 2.00 and 4.30. Recorded 1.73kw for 2.0-2.30, 1.66 2.30-3.00, 2.11 3.00-3.30 , 1.77 3.30-4.00 and 1.23 4.00-4.30 with 0.09 5.30-6.00 and 0.10 6.00-6.30. Octopus say I saved 2.77kw during the session and gave me 4992 points= £6.24. Does this seem correct?

Just on the last session , I earned £15.97 after following the tips, e.g. washing machine and dishwasher on earlier, and car on charge rather than later. All stuff I would have done anyway.

Thank you to whoever posted the magic formula!!

That's the way to do it. I think that it's jolly bad form to turn on stuff just for the sake of using more power. Think of the polar bears.

Well you can, you just have to game the system. Whether you choose to do that is upto you.

Sounds about right, my peak was 2.62kWh in the first half hour and it gradually dropped until 3.30 when it went down to 0.26kWh as the car had finished charging but went back up to 1.1kWh for the last half hour as the dishwasher went on a drying cycle and the towel rail came on as the CH hadnt been on and towels needed drying..

I did the session before, but really the only stuff I can shift would be doing unnecessary cooking and laundry, as neither of my cars are electric.

My monthly bill for electricity is only around £70 a month as it stands, so I'd be having to find things to plug in and run - it doesn't really seem worth it for my particular usage profile.

If I had a couple of electric cars and a home power bank, with electric-only heating etc. then that would be a different game altogether!

I guess you have a fast car charger. I only charge our Mini on a 3 pin plug so that’s probably why we only got £6.24

Nice email from Octopus today saying I'm £400 in credit but they need a new monthly payment of £611 per month for the next 12 months!!

Went onto their website to reduce it but the lowest the website will accept is £512 per month - "or phone us".

You're damned right I'll be on the phone!!!!!

Just go onto their variable direct debit and pay for what you use.

Bizarrely, I went online again today and their recommended DD payment had reduced from £611 to £544 since yesterday! I then entered my own suggested payment of £450 pcm which was accepted.

Simply astounding.
