Oddly, in a September bill The elec meter appeared to give about 12 days of readings but that is all!

When I got my electricity meter, I had two visits from engineers who couldn’t get it reading instantly, and left saying “it should update over the next couple of days”.

That’s rubbish. If they can’t get it reading then, it won’t magically work after 48hrs, so I told the third guy that he wasn’t leaving until it was reading. He agreed and got it sorted, but it took about 2 hours for him to get it working.

Octopus Home Mini arrived today, set up in about 2 minutes, readings started appearing in the app after about 5 mins

Nice granular breakdown. I do love me some data! Need to figure out integration with Home Assistant now, because... well, you know... reasons.

Setup was via the Octopus app, using bluetooth to give the device a wifi password and then it just works. Easy setup.

Does it do gas aswell? I dont understand why I can get instant live data from my electricity usage but gas doesnt on the IHD. Also next day gas usage doesnt show up as often as electricity and can come a day later so my gas usage is normally a day behind on the app.

Gas is min 30min interval
Octopus do have and API for ha but I use glowmkt instead for local mqtt feed

Took them 7 months and countless messages to make mine work. Eventually fixed after someone at Octopus requested a "remote join" that fixed it in 5 minutes flat, but I'd had enough of them at that point and left soon after.

This is similar to my experience with Octopus. Anything 'difficult' and the customer services people are clueless. They seem to be rewarded simply for replying to emails rather than addressing the issue.

It seems to be universal(ish). My electricity for Saturday had only just come through and no gas as of yet.

Does anyone know if it is normal for a newly installed smart metre to not connect to the network and just Flip through the demo mode?

My app is telling me what I’m using and they have been paying me for the one hour sessions but for some reason the meter doesn’t appear to be transmitting for billing. Any idea what the issue might be and how to solve it?

I'm not sure if it can, my gas readings have stopped. Again. Happens a lot.

The gas meter talks to the leccy meter, which then uploads the readings. The IHD connects to the leccy meter to get both readings. So if the comms between your gas meter and your leccy meter fail, it will only be uploading leccy readings. The gas meter will be storing the history and eventually when the stars align, it will all get uploaded.

My gas meter and electricity meter are only max 5m apart, and it still fails all the time. If it starts showing gas readings live at any point, I'll report back.

Octopus home mini live wotsit shows 'live' data for electricity and nearly/almost live for gas.



Both show kWh only, not £/value (yet).
