Octopus energy company. Anyone use 'em?
Discussion
Sorry if this has already been covered, but I can't read the whole thread.
We're with Octopus at the moment, on Flexible:
Electricity - 33.33p/kWh
Gas - 10.33p/kWh
We'll be taking delivery of an EV in the next couple of weeks, and will likely be charging it with a 3-pin plug. I've enquired about moving to Intelligent Octopus, but currently don't have a smart meter (it was lost in the house move!). The rates for Intelligent are 10p/kWh at night, 41.63p/kWh during the day.
I'll have to do the maths to make sure our daytime usage doesn't negate night-time charging, but is this the tariff that most of y'all go for when charging EVs? Anything I'm missing? We live about eight miles from a Tesla Supercharger but that costs around 67p/kWh, so ok for emergencies but nothing regular.
I've just looked on the Octopus dashboard and we're using about 15kWh/day at the moment. Hardly anything at all through the night, then peaks at 09:00/13:00/17:00 so fairly typical.
So if we put say 10kWh a night in to the car, that'll cost £3.30 if we stay as we are, or £1 on Intelligent. But it'll cost us £6 for daily usage rather than £4.50.
Seems I've done the maths!
Also need to consider that the EV will cost about £7.70 in fuel to do 280 miles, whereas the current car costs about £70 for the same mileage (Macan SD).
I'm not being overly influenced my man-maths am I?!

It seems to be universal(ish). My electricity for Saturday had only just come through and no gas as of yet.

That's handy to know, I'd also noticed that Octopus can't see my electricity at the moment. Although oddly I am also registered with Bright Energy so I have a consolidated view of Gas (with EDF) and Elec, and that can see all the "missing" electricity data perfectly well. https://kb.loop.homes/27th-february-2023-partial-o...
There are a number of apps that may help determine best tariff for your usage.
I'm on Go at 7.5p kWh and 40p kWh peak. My usage is averaging c. 15p kWh overall.
Over the last 30 days I have paid/used 356 kWh @ £78.76, but were I on Flexible it would've been £132.94 so saving a worthwhile amount.
(That was an odd period as I couldn't access my home charger properly as had scaffolding blocking access so stats a little skewed).

Any recommendations on apps to use to work out the best tariff?I'm on Go at 7.5p kWh and 40p kWh peak. My usage is averaging c. 15p kWh overall.

You still have a smart meter I suspect, just not an in house displayArsE82 said:

Keep in mind it should be pretty easy to move some of that existing day time consumption overnight. Things like dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer particularly. So if we put say 10kWh a night in to the car, that'll cost £3.30 if we stay as we are, or £1 on Intelligent. As someone posted above, you can't 'lose' your smart meter in a move as it doesn't move.

You also shouldn't be moving your in home display. They are linked to the meter at the home where it was installed and will not work at another meter. As someone posted above, you can't 'lose' your smart meter in a move as it doesn't move.
