OK this is what I've been moved to - actually seems pretty decent or am I missing something?

Flexible Octopus
Flexible Octopus October 2022 v1
Prices follow wholesale costs

DAY RATE NIGHT RATE
19.20 p/kWh 13.81 p/kWh
STANDING CHARGE
37.38p/day
I am on Intelligent Octopus which is meant to follow wholesale costs but IO is currently 41.71p day and 10.00p 6 hours at night. Standing charge 53.96p. Just got an online quote for Flexible Octopus which shows unit rate 32.36p and no mention of cheaper night rate. Same standing charge as IO. Confused !
Me too. I don’t think the tariff shown above is a currently available one. I’d bite their hands off if it was.
Sorry forgot to follow up... I think the Octopus platform had a brain fart as the next day it changed again to below;

Flexible Octopus October 2022 v1
Prices follow wholesale costs

DAY RATE NIGHT RATE
45.03 p/kWh 16.31 p/kWh
STANDING CHARGE
42.11p/day
(All rates inc. VAT)

Annoyingly my Ohme home charger doesnt seem to be able to find this tariff so I can't use the pricing cap and instead have to use a charging schedule.

Same here; took back out the bulk of the credit we'd built up due to over paying and also the winter fuel allowance so we're using that towards our solar installation. Hopefully be able to move over to Octopus Flux once it's installed and all the export stuff is set up.

My home mini arrived today. Didn't take long to setup and the Octopus app is now showing the live usage.

The octo-aid app has picked it up as well and it showing the real time cost which is something the IHD has long since stopped doing since moving to tracker.

I can see why they have invented them to save the cost of sending out an IHD to each house but the IHD is handy to have as it makes other household members aware of the usage easily as its always there in the kitchen, etc. compared to the app.

Quick Q - my landlord has installed solar panels to our old rental last week, great ! its got a meter, but our old electricity meter is now running backwards when we dont use more than the solar generation!!!

i'm assuming this is wrong ? i'm assuming at some point OCTOPUS will catch up it - either by the solar panel installer or landlord will have to get a smart meter put it? or do we just do it via OCTOPUS ourselves?

hmmmm its nice to see it go backwards though ;-)

I'm surprised that installers are allowed to install solar into the grid via an old style meter.

Great news for the consumer if they are.

I think this was discussed on the solar panels thread recently. Are the numbers actually going backwards, or just the wheel thing? On some ,there's a ratchet that stops the numbers going down.

I *think* you need a smart meter to get the payments for export to grid?

Well, my magnificent Octopus Go tariff is ending at midnight tonight, so no more 7p car charging for me. I'm rolling on to the standard variable for now, at 34.23p / kWh. Sigh.

A couple of weeks ago I enquired about joining Agile, and they told me I could sign up, but if I wanted to keep my Go tariff until it expired then there would be some manual faff or other involved in holding the account till then. So I thought I'd wait until a day before expiry and then request Agile. Bzzzzzt. Mistake. Doing that now means I've got to wait a couple of weeks at least for them to make the change, and my account is now marked as needing my smart meter changed, even though I had a new smart meter installed when I joined Octopus a year ago. WTF. Why didn't they tell me that a couple of weeks ago? I have had a moan at them about this by email.

Anyway, bit annoyed but it probably won't make tooooo much difference.

The smart meter needing changed is wrong. Call them up or send them a message on twitter and they will swap to Agile same day.

Ok thanks, I'll try that. Was hoping to get a reply by email as that's the easiest for me. Hate having to bloody well ring up companies and spend half a morning on hold.

They take forever to answer the emails where the wait time on the phone is generally quite short.

If you want them to do something quickly, call them up.

Ok, going in...

EDIT: Took 5 mins to answer which isn't too bad. The nice lady told me that they would backdate charges to the day I applied for the tariff once it's set up, and I don't need a new smart meter.

So thanks for the tip! I shall continue doing the laundry and charging the car overnight.

I’m languishing on the Flexible Tariff, I can’t find anything on the site that directly compares tariffs, so what is best tariff for the average user please?

I think Flexible is probably the best and only tariff for an average user, by which I mean someone who can't push a lot of energy use to off-peak times, such as EV owners, or people who are at home all day and can cook/do laundry etc during lower demand times. Agile might be the best tariff if you are in either of those categories, but "it depends" applies in spades.

I'm just hoping that all this calculation will go away soon and competition will return to the energy market and see prices plunge, so we can all stop worrying about it so much.

If you add the octopus compare app on your phone it will pull in your current usage and you can select different tariff to see how it compares.

I have recently been moved from Bulb to Octopus. Still getting used to the new app and website but my tariff seems high.

I’m on the ‘Flexible Octopus’ tariff and the rates are

Electricity
32.91p/kwh
60.02p/day

Gas
10.27p/kwh
27.47p/day

The 60p a day in particular seems high for electricity. Am I getting a rubbish deal here?

No idea how to actually change tariff via the app or website.

The 60p a day is the standing charge which varies by region.

You can see the Octopus rates here: https://octopus.energy/tariffs/

You used to be able to change via the website (not sure about the app) but thats been removed now and you have to contact them.
