Because Ben Lowden has already stated that they are not allowed as it breaches the rule of posting No.6 which states:-

No.6 Do not post for the purpose of advertising for personal or business gain, unless Etc.
I respect the decision of course but these codes are a bit different to most referral codes in that both sides benefit by exactly the same amount; it's not like a hidden referral code where one side gets no benefit & the other makes money.

Is there no chance of allowing these types of mutually advantageous codes?

I think you're missing the point, it doesn't benefit PH hehe

No, as it still breaches the rule.

Would a solution be...

"Please PM me a personal code. I'll use the first one I receive."

?

This avoids the code is only accessible to the person to whom it was posted, and not the whole world.

BTW, St. Vincent's Hospice has benefitted to the tune of £100 thanks to the two people who have used my code. I don't see any losers. I understand that PH doesn't gain. If anything, it loses, as we spend bandwidth discussing how petty they can be.

Fair enough. I hadn't thought of it like that, in part as said I guess because it's a muteral gain.

Playing devils advocacy very slight, I guess if give your reference away and hence you have not personal or business gain....?

Very nice gesture, but not all think and act the same way as you unfortunately.

Looking to move to octopus today moving away from bulb.

Sadly don't have a smart meter so not sure what tariff to be on ?

If anyone wants to PM me with suggestions that would be great.
I switched to Octopus back in Feb and was expecting a smart meter in a few weeks - so i was put on their std tariff of 14.6p which was more than my previous 14p at Bulb. Then Covid struck and I have waited 6 months and finally just got my meter done last week after lots of chasing.
Hopefully the backlog for installations is lower now - but something to be aware of.

Engineer for my IHD just didn't turn up today. Would've been nice to have been told that was the case.

Are they using the new meters that you use with anyone?

I believe the exact requirements are a SMETS2 meter with half hourly reporting.

Just about to sign up with Octopus for home and also business as current provider British Gas Lite have become expensive.

Are they still recommended for price and service?

Don’t worry, I was beaten to it by a sneaky person not mentioning it here!

The referral thing really gets on my nerves - wherever I see them being discussed I see people trying to ram their referral codes down people’s throats.

Anyone know if the lead times for smart meter installs are still terrible? I have a SMETS1 meter that isn’t compatible with Octopus and was thinking about switching. Might not be worth it if I’m on one of their standard tariffs for ages.

An honest opinion, or just a chance to grab £50? Hardly impartial if its the latter...

Doesn't look like they will be getting a 3Ph smart meter sorted for some time.

Would I be able to get 3 seperate meters for each phase? I've an expensive hot tub on one of the phases that is wifi controlled that would be rather handy to have on Agile. Also would have an EV on that phase as it runs to the garage.

The other meters would be on normal tariffs, cooking with electric hobs and ovens is always done at peak its unavoidable.

i joined Octopus a few weeks ago with the intention of getting Agile as i have an inbound PHEV, new hot tub and large marine fish tank. Switch was straight forward, however customer service has been lacking, it takes days for them to respond to emails and only after chasing it seems. I have a SMETS1 meter but its the wrong type, they are quoting 6-8 weeks in my area to get a SMETS2 meter installed frown frustratingly the tariff i'm on is more expensive than the tariff i switched from (peoples energy), hopefully i can make back the addition costs, though the referral does help with that which is nice
