Got a smart meter appointment on Monday we will see if they turn up. Only been with them for 2 weeks so will be impressive if they do.
Also found a link to order an octopus. It arrived today. Pint glass for size comparison
I keep asking for one. Have been since we signed up a year ago. Still nothing! Also found a link to order an octopus. It arrived today. Pint glass for size comparison

They didn't turn up for the first appointment for me, but came good on the second.... i think they farm it out to small local companies so it's a post code lottery.
Now need to get the charger installed....
Same here, but managed to come later that day.Now need to get the charger installed....
Same here with the charger, I just know that is going to be more difficult that it should be.

Email from Octopus. Intriguing.
If anyone needs to discuss tariffs, you can always email me for details
And of course the high demand is because 'renewables' can't cope - so the fossil fuel boys have a seller's market. If anyone needs to discuss tariffs, you can always email me for details
I was browsing U-Switch this week and all the top deals are 100% renewable. Why is that? I don't care where it comes from, I want the cheapest.
Going to switch to Octopus shortly I think. Been looking at their "standard-type" tariffs... Fixed 12 months, Flexible, and Super Green, and they are all within a £4 range (on their estimates).
I'd probably just plump for the fixed one, but is there any reason to choose any of the other ones? Is there reason to believe (say) the flex is currently high, and will drop over the coming months, so is a better bet overall?
I don't want one of the more Innovative tariffs, the reality is I will just switch and forget about it, I don't want to monitor usage all the time and feel obliged to flex my use accordingly.
Lastly, is a Smart Meter just an optional extra if I want it? ie. they won't force it on me, but likewise I can ask for one if I want? (I assume they are all the latest versions now, which can be used with a new supplier if I switch again in the future?).
Thanks for any pointers!

The Octopus Go tariff is +5p daily standing charge, and then 5p/kWh for 4 hours (instead of typically 15p/kWh).Thanks for any pointers!
If you've got an EV, or no gas, then it makes complete sense.
I'm coming to the end of my Octopus tariff and they're coming in dearer than others by a not-insignificant margin so it looks like it'll be time to switch. EON are cheapest and I've been with them before - they were OK. I like Octopus and if the difference in cost for the year wasn't £150-odd I'd probably stay but £150 is £150...

Thanks. But neither apply - no EV, and it will be combined elec/ gas (sorry should have said that bit). If you've got an EV, or no gas, then it makes complete sense.

£150 is worth a call to them before you switch. They can only say no.First day on Octopus Agile yesterday so finally tried out smart charging with my Ohme charger. Seemed to work well, charged the i3 overnight at sub 6p/kWh quite happily.
I only switched my electricity to Octopus although I think as a result I’ve totally fked my account with E.ON where my gas still is, the online portal has gone mental

Some of the comparison sites don't seem to allow you to show only those suppliers who DON'T require you to have a smart meter which is annoying. It's only when you click through to each and check the small print that it says, "...must have a smart meter or get one installed to have this tariff..." etc. I don't have one and I don't particularly want one as I can't see any benefits, only downsides.
Just moved into a new build and considering supplier options - considering signing up with Octopus
House is dual fuel gas and electricity, with some solar panels on the roof. No electric car yet, but likely in the next 12 months
Meters are SMETS2. Hard to tell what our energy consumption is going to be, having gone from a 4 bed detached home in 2019 to renting a draughty old cottage for 12 months to this 3 bed bungalow whilst it was under construction
Working from home for the foreseeable, so can use appliances whenever it is most economical.
I like the idea of the Octopus Agile tariff and then perhaps review once I buy an EV
Any pointers?

Agile is fantastic if you can limit your usage between 1600-1900.
I was paying circa 15p at all times with E.ON. Only been on Agile for a couple of days but it’s going well so far! Massively cheaper outside of those peak times - it’s been sub 10p most of the day today. We even avoid the breakfast “spike” (it was 11p for about an hour today IIRC) because OH and I both have early morning stand up calls during that time!
I do have two EVs though - which skews things a little. Being able to charge overnight at super low rates is a massive saving. Charged at sub 6p yesterday which is under 2p a mile. Even cheaper tomorrow night.

Agreed, even if just for the hybrid PHEV we own, but even stuff like only running the dishwasher and washing machine first thing in the morning saves considerably.I was paying circa 15p at all times with E.ON.
