Octopus energy company. Anyone use 'em?
Discussion
I've been resistant to having a smart meter fitted - I don't see the point of them and have a sneaking suspicion that whilst the tech is being used in a 'positive' way right now (such as zero-rated use periods) it's possibly a bait-and-switch, ultimately being used detrimentally in future (ie. punitive charges at peak times rather than low charges at non-peak times, detecting 'high-draw' use such as electric car charging and bumping up the rate etc).
Am I being a tt about it? I do know that I'm already as minimal on usage as I'll ever be, I'm not wasteful. Getting a smart meter, for me, would not mean I could understand my usage any better than I already do which is where I'm not really seeing the benefit (or the billions being spent moving people over to them).

That's literally how Octopus Agile works now, with upto 35p/kWh during the peak 4-8pm window.Edited by Funk on Sunday 15th November 21:22
But people are still seeing monthly averages of circa 8p/kWh across the billing period.

I'm on octopus and they installed a smart meter a while ago. I didn't bother doing anything because I realised I wasn't willing to charge at particular times.
But just noticed it was one click instant process to move to agile, so I've done that and will see how it compares and perhaps it will influence my behaviour

my smart(er) meter is going in on Thursday, hopefully i can get moved over to Agile PDQ!
FFS spoke to soon, they canceled the appointment. only been waiting 3 months! can't give me any replacements dates either, just "we'll be in touch" - not happy After i expressed my displeasure at being on a fixed tariff that is more expensive thnt my pervious supplier (Peoples Energy) and that I'd only moved to Octopus to get on Agile, the guy said that they would be looking at refunding people who we're out of pocket, they would take 3 months of Agile usage and compare the "savings" (i guess if there is any) and credit back if you were out of pocket due to not being on Agile, he also said the same for Go too. This could of course me complete b****ks to get an irate customer off the phone, but if not, at least its something.
So i guess if anyone's thinking of switching to Agile/Go for the savings, don't hold your breath unless you already have a SMETS2 meter (mines a version1 not 2).
if anyone would like to discuss Octopus tariffs feel free to PM me

Interesting - i was stuck on their crap tarrif for 6 months waiting for a smart meterAfter i expressed my displeasure at being on a fixed tariff that is more expensive thnt my pervious supplier (Peoples Energy) and that I'd only moved to Octopus to get on Agile, the guy said that they would be looking at refunding people who we're out of pocket, they would take 3 months of Agile usage and compare the "savings" (i guess if there is any) and credit back if you were out of pocket due to not being on Agile, he also said the same for Go too. thinking of changing from OVO to Octopus - cheaper standing charge, cheaper econ7 rate (by some margin) and cheaper day rate. What's not to like?!
the only thing that's not to like is if you haven't got a SMETS2 meter and need one for a smart tariff (like me), you'll be waiting ages!Meter fitted and all communicating. I've had to do some math to get the averages, per day over the time we've lived here:
Electric: 11.96KWh
Gas: 1.94m3 / 21.57KWh
Take our tariff into consideration (without standing charges, this is usage only)
Electric: £1.61
Gas: £0.70
So that's what the target is set at. Well, £1.60 for the electric.
