Interesting. I do wonder how their (Octopus's) books look given they were capping you at 35p/kwh or whatever it was, and paying significantly more than that in the market. At one point the wholesale price was £1/kwh, before any transmission/distribution costs, and before any profit margin. Buying at £1 and selling at 35p doesn't make much money.
But they're usually selling at 15p/kWh...

It hurt all the energy suppliers, but at least an Agile customer is more aware of it and tends to reduce usage at peak times.

People on fixed deals coming to an end, or even on standard tariffs (price cap goes up goes up next week) will be in for a shock in the coming months.

Yep, including when the wholesale price is negative - which they don’t make (as much) money on with Agile customers like they do the standard tariff.

The exposure to risk when wholesale prices are many times the cap must be considerable, especially if it goes on for long.

Just switching to Octopus.

We’ve got 6 yr old solar, so better FiT prices, with a Zappi charger being fitted this week. Does anybody have similar and can recommend the most suitable tariff. It will be Go initially, bust as someone mentioned earlier, there’s no tie-in so can swap readily.

one of the Go Faster options is probably the best choice currently, you can bring your cheap hours earlier into the evening rather than them be in the middle of the night.

Aren't these historical packages.. We went on to Go earlier this year as we now have an EV, and the only smart tariffs are Go or Agile.. Go being 00.30 to 4.30am at the lower rate.. If I could find a way to move that forwards to 10.30pm to 02.30am that would be much more convenient but I can't see an option to do that on the Octopus site..

Go Faster is available but you need to ask for it

They're beta (test) tariffs. Email them on agile@octopus.energy and they'll sort it out. I switch from Go to Go Faster 5ppkwh 8:30pm to 12:30am last week. Took three days from sending them the initial email

Thank you both, I've sent them an email asking for details and of course if it is possible to switch to Go Faster if possible..

Friend of mine asked to switch to Go Faster recently, he doesn't have an EV (but was asked which one he had). He ended up choosing a 4 hour tariff that starts at (I think) 20:30 at 5p/kWh.

For stuff like dishwashers, etc I imagine it's quite a boon.

I'm on Go Faster and it does make quite a difference, I reckon it's saving about £10 a month compared to Go.

Yep, I'm seeing results (monitored with the OctopusCompare app). Car charging not much difference as I was always happy to schedule the car during the early hours cheap slot, but having the 8:30pm on slot means it catches the last of our TV/Xbox/room lighting of the day, plus the dishwasher and sometime washing machine and tumble drier are on when people are up. I've scheduled them for the early hours before but never been particularly comfortable with it.

Swapped from Scottish Power to Octopus last week.

Price wasn't that different but having been with some of the smaller companies that have no customer services department I've realised how important that aspect can be when it goes wrong.

The transfer process seems to have got easier. Although despite Octopus sending my first readings to SP for them to close the account they still asked for final readings.

I’m getting the run around from Octopus at the moment. I switched to them seven weeks ago, primarily to use their Go tariff for my EV. I didn’t have a smart meter so in the queue for one of those I go and they put me on a quite expensive holding tariff for electricity. Six weeks later (last week) the engineer finally rolls up to install the smart meters. This goes well to the point where he can’t get the meter to connect to a company called TMA who apparently take the readings and pass them to whichever energy company is concerned.

And that’s where I’ve been since. They’re now trying to arrange for the engineer to come back and have another stab at it, but I’m getting more hacked off each day. Really poor service and when I suggest that some priority may be in order because the job was muffed up first time around they tell me that’s not the way it works.

I see I’m not tied to a contract with them, so if they don’t sort it out soon I’ll be off to another supplier.

Octopus get a lot of stick over smart meter installation, I assume because they're quite pro-active and many people move to them for the smart tariffs.

But it's really not their fault the hardware and the network it uses is poor. They have no control over that.

Blimey, switch supplier and expect a SMART meter to immediately be fitted for your convenience. I’ve been with Octopus for 2 years and I’m patiently waiting in the queue to get one fitted. Slots are in very short supply because of COVID.

You’ve been waiting two years?

I did check with them before I switched as they are no use to me without a smart meter. They promised six weeks which they just managed to meet, albeit they’ve actually achieved nothing because of this connection failure. In retrospect I would have been better off staying with my previous supplier and letting them fit the smart meter. I was paying a fair bit less for electric with them than the holding tariff Octopus has me on.

I did that. I had my smart meter fitted by the current supplier and then moved to Octopus

Octopus' referral scheme is doing me well, had £150 so far from it which is handy!
