Octopus energy company. Anyone use 'em?
Discussion
I moved to Octopus with the hope of using their ‘Go’ tariff as we have a EV.
Unfortunately I have a ‘SMETS1’ meter which will only give readings to British Gas.
Octopus refuse to install a ‘SMETS2’ meter and state that my SMETS1 meter should become smart with them shortly, they can’t give a timescale and I’ve been waiting 4 months already 🤦🏻♂️

How are people on the variable tariff doing? Go must be expensive at the moment.
Assuming you mean Agile not Go, it has been bloody terrible. I hung on but bailed and switched to Go last month. My first bill had a unit rate 20%+ cheaper than Agile was achieving and we don't even have an electric car - essentially using it like an economy 7.Phunk said:

I have a SMETS1 meter at my business that was put in when I was with BG years ago, never been able to use it as a smart meter since.Unfortunately I have a ‘SMETS1’ meter which will only give readings to British Gas.

However a meter guy came round a few weeks ago at the request of Octopus and got it online with them. It’s provided 2 x meter reads since.
Whilst I appreciate this is a business contract, they are able to receive the reads from a SMETS1 now.
I need to switch shortly as my 2yr fix is ending with Ovo.
Energy prices are absolutely shocking. My Ovo fix was expensive, but when I look at uswitch the alternatives are 15-20% more expensive.
My very small terrace that I live in alone will likely cost £100/month for energy. Mostly gas over winter for heating.

Switched from Eon, £80 a month to Octopus £50 a month and in the six months we've been with them we're £25 in credit. What's not to like?
Octopus seem very expensive right now so that's quite surprising to hear. Maybe my usage is very different though. I have very low electricity usage and very high gas (lack of insulation and end terrace).Matt.. said:

Everyone seems to be expensive at the moment, with kWh prices approaching 20p/kWh. Octopus have never been the cheapest for gas, so people often look elsewhere. But my Octopus GO daytime rate is less than 15p/kWh ....

My yearly usage is 1,500 electricity, 14,000 gas.But my Octopus GO daytime rate is less than 15p/kWh ....
Octopus: £95/month
Ovo: £87/month
Bulb: £79/month
Avro: £75/month
Octopus are £££. It's surprising just how expensive they are at the moment.
Bit of a gimmick but octopus giving all customers (with a smart meter) one free hour of electricity per month until the end of next year. For the sake of 20 seconds for signing up will give it a go.

British Gas did this about 5 years ago but it was for 8 hours, you could choose either Saturday or Sunday between 9am-5pm.https://octopus.energy/powerhour/
I think customers paid a slightly higher rate for all other times
