You should mount the router in the middle of the property, hence cupboard under the stairs is often cited.

If you imagine the router broadcasts WiFi in all directions in an invisible bubble of internet signal, that bubble wants to encompass the whole house, not half the garden or half the front drive.

I am aware that is a modem and a router is still required (in the middle of the house!) lol

Hi - apologies for picking up an old thread but it fits my situation perfectly 😀

Just moved into a new build apartment and have the same box installed in a hall cupboard. There is a coiled Ethernet cable hanging out of the bottom and also a coiled telephone cable.

BT have sent me ftth Home Hub but if I connect it to the Ethernet cable hanging out of the wall box then my Home Hub will be in the cupboard and probably not the best place, also miles from the TV. Will I have to extend the Ethernet cable out of the cupboard to where I want to site the Home Hub? Figure I will one way or another either to HH or the TV box - am I missing something?

Thanks

Try it and see. There's nothing wrong with your router being out of sight in a hall cupboard if you can get Wi-Fi where you need it. It really depends how large the apartment is of course, but being new build the walls wont be solid so you may find it's all you need.

Thanks. All good. Home Hub in the cupboard but good WiFi signal throughout the property and got some Ethernet extenders through the power cables to connect the tv 📺😀
