(I should probably add the old drill is a NiCd battery, it is not a lithium battery.)

My advice is buy only brushless tools and use a minimum 5Ah batteries. All my kit (and work stuff) is Makita LXT stuff.
With the greatest respect, I think it depends how often you are using it. Professionally, then by all means.
However, if you're a home DIYer and use the tools for .... oh about 10 mins every month, then brushless (last longer than brushed) and big batteries (last longer but are heavier) are over kill.

I've got the 12v Makita drills, driver and multitool with tiny 2Ah batteries. By the time a bettery has run out, I'm ready for a cuppa. The fast charger only takes 1/2 hour and I have two batteries. They're much lighter than a 5Ah 18V tool when drilling above your head.

Stanley Junior Saw Horse

Span two lengths of suitably sized timber between them (using the cut outs), and a sheet of plywood for a mobile workbench.

On a similar theme, I bought a couple of cheap builders' trestles from a scaffolding company.

They are height adjustable and, with a bit of padding, make an ideal chassis stand.

Thanks to whoever suggested using a paddle bit in an impact driver! 22mm holes through joists in seconds, with all the woodworking finesse of your average plumber. Superb.

Honestly don’t see me buying another cordless drill.
If it's joists you want to make holes through, these work very well - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000Y8F9LI/

+1 for those - but you can’t be tentative with them and certainly no good for counterboring something - they bite hard smile

So where does one buy such a device. Amazon only seems to list USA import ones.
I just ordered one, albeit a smaller size, from this german site https://www.sautershop.com/

looks to be just what I'm after as my old workmate type thing is too small and takes up too much space in my workshop/shed
Oh dear, that site could seriously harm my wallet and/or marriage smile

Pivot pin install tool. Somewhat specialized, but the job is a colossal pain otherwise, with the detent likely to fly off into orbit, your eye, or some never to be found recess.

I see your bulky work benches and raise you the toughbuilt version, which folds away nicely. I even made special racks on the inner roof of my van for them.

I have the same/very similar. Only needed it for 1 job so for in the 14 months I've had it. But like all tools, it's a godsend when you need it.
Yep exactly. I have no doubt it will collect dust, but I learnt how to do the bushes and was worth it for that! biggrin

I've got the toughbuilt ones and the stanley ones. The toughbuilt ones are worth the extra money, fantastic.

What are you still using combo drills for ?

I hardly touch mine & generally reach for either my impact driver or SDS - drilling into metal is the exception that sees the combo come out to play

If I should be looking at elsewhere I'm happy to be educated, I just like the versatility of the Combi drill.

I haven't bought any drill bits for my impact driver, should I?

I mostly use mine for wood and soft building materials (plasterboard and lightweight concrete). Are you saying an impact driver or sds is better for those?
