Much Wenlock is a good shout. Couple of good boozers in the Main Street plus a good independent butcher.
Indeed, one of the best butchers I know of! Fantastic walks straight out into beautiful open countryside / Wenlock Edge without getting in the car. What’s not to like! Few years since I've worked in Shrewsbury but Ditherington and Harlescott would be the areas I would avoid. Flood defences have improved in recent years but I would imagine there are still hefty insurance premiums in some areas.Baschurch is a good village to look at primary and secondary schools, shop, doctors and pub close to Shrewsbury this looks a good buy on rightmove https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prop...

^^ used to be more detailed though.

Thanks Again. I tried to reply last night .But it looks like the forum has issues with new members spamming ! For the first 2 years >i will imagine my wife will need Public transport to get to a hospital etc. Learning to drive for her could be a great thread on its own !! .I have printed off a big map and starting to put post its etc marking out the nice places and the not so recommended etc. Also the flood areas. No way do i want to be part of those News videos with me up to my waist in dirty water been interviewed by the BBC !

OP, have you lived in a rural area before? There's a tremendous difference from living in London and a place like Shrewsbury. You have to be sure that rural living is for you, especially if you've become accustomed to living in London.
The OP is asking about moving to a county town of around 100,000 people, not the middle of nowhere in Wales or Scotland where the only thing to talk to is a sheep.Grew up in Bayston Hill which is a couple of miles south of shrewsbury and went to school at Meole Brace, which was genenerally at the rougher end, but the Priory or Wakeman were the grammar schools and a bit posh
Bayston hill used to be a really nice place to live, parents still live there and once I retire we plan to move back. Easy access to town, and on Lyth Hill there are some really nice houses, but might be a bit pricey.
I think there are some new developments up near the only remaining primary/junior school Long Meadow.
Lots of little villages to look at
And, most importantly, access to some great driving roads. Wales on the door step.
The road past the old ironbridge power station where i used to work back towards shrewsbury is great, used to know every little bump and bend of it.

Maybe but if you are used to London type of facilities and shops you really are talking a vast difference. That said I would rather live in Shrewsbury than anywhere within 20 miles of the M25. Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
