I had hoped to do exactly this (albeit selling up in the South East, so larger budget) this coming summer, but sadly I don't think it's realistic before the kids finish school.

Youngest starts secondary school next year, so 7.5 years and counting. frown

After that, I'll be gone like a rat up a drainpipe in search of a couple of spaniels, and, if I can possibly manage it, early retirement! smile
Why do you need to move to Shrewsbury to get a dog or two?!

Same for us. Once we are settled .We will get a dog! It will help us spend as much time as possible outside. I dont agree with pets in big cities and worst still apartments etc

Shrewsbury is a terrific place.

Oswestry is very nice too, but veeeeery sleepy. Feels 40 years behind the bright lights, fast cars and intolerable poseurs of Cheshire where I live. I mean that in a good way.

Shropshire in general is lovely. Slow, beautiful, relaxed and quiet. Almost like England’s answer to New Zealand.

https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prop... But in town, for that budget its quite limited, but should be quite nice and some schools near by

Shrewsbury has certainly gentrified since i lived there smile
Avoid the first one. Next door but 3 from my sister biggrin

What for overpriced beer and souless atmosphere. Better try the Oak or the Black Lion.

So I'm in Oswestry. Moved back here a few years ago, see my house build thread (smile), and work in London. I rent digs down there during the week. 06:09 Gobowen train, change at Shrewsbury for direct into London. Return is a change at Brum International.

Absolutely love it here!

Money will stretch further in Oswestry over Shrewsbury. There are some parts to avoid like any town but the area I commented above about is quite good. Also look at Whittington and Park Hall if you are thinking of jobs at the hospital. Friend of mine's wife is a midwife and she commutes to Shrewsbury and Telford daily, can be easily done too.

Also 15 miles North is Wrexham who have a large hospital on the right side of town for commuting.

Shame. I’ve had some good meals in there over the last few years.

Peaberry - best coffee in Shrews.

Superb lattes. Somehow just richer and creamier than we've had anywhere else.
Peaberry was going to be my recommendation as well. Don't drink coffee but had breakfast in there last Saturday. My Eggs Benedict (with smoked salmon) was great.

If you fancy a stiffer drink to take home, carry on down the hill to Tanners wine merchants.

Unfortunately Oswestry is not the best in that respect, so the best would be Barkers or something special Sebastians.

Near Oswestry is a place called Maesbury Marsh, it has an excellent humped back bridge.

Got so much air in my Astra, the rear view mirror came out of its mount on landing smile
