Well, fortunately I am here to assure you that it is neither of those things.

....but really, are you not worried (and why) about oil/wood/fire -- water/chipboard/soggy ?

Or do you just "Park" in yours ?

If leaking petrol AND an ignition source were to be simultaneously present then what the floor was made of would not be significant. A water leak could eventually be an issue if not attended to, but occasional spillages are not a problem if mopped up due to the water resistant nature of the material. However, if a person was worried then they should forego the advantages or find another way of insulating the floor if they can.

I have a timber framed, single skinned timber clad, open truss roof double garage. I have had problems with condensation that I have tried to control with a dehumidifier but this is not getting to root cause of the problem.

Seems from reading here that PIV is the way to go, I have looked at Flatmaster on website but all info is direct at house usage. Sent email to makers but no response to my query re garage use!

Wondered if anyone has tried one ( AW10 did you investigate further ?) and had any installation tips?

I think this is really a good decision. I have no problems with humidity in the garage, but in summer it is unbearably hot. There isn't even a slight breeze and therefore the air seems heavy. My friend has an air conditioner in the garage. He has a big garage and maybe it makes sense, but I have a very small garage in which I work. It's for one car, there isn't enough free space. I read a review about mini split systems here coolingfanreview. It seems to me that this will help cool the garage in summer and warm it in winter. Do you think it makes sense to install a mini split system in the garage?
Presumably you are working in there in which case you just need some ventilation.

Try installing a fan to get the damp air our. It usually does the job and is much quieter. If you have no power, solar powered ones will work.

That's not going to help internal temperatures if the air outside is hot. If the air conditioner is within budget then it sounds like a good idea. If he gets one then he will just need to take steps to keep the heat out as far as possible (the same steps that will keep the heat in when it's cold outside) and the cool air in.

If you live in a low humidity environment and have a large space, A swamp cooler works really well. A/C is super expensive to run in a garage as it's not really a sealed environment. I have a couple of large (36" fans) which keep the air moving and a giant fan mounted on the wall. If i get in early enough and open the doors, it's bearable in the summer until about 2pm.
