Thanks all. Some names for me to look at.

I'm 47, if its dated in 20 years time it really wont matter.

I've used reuter.de twice now. Based in Germany, extremely efficient and even with the drop in exchange rate still noticeably cheaper than buying in the UK.

Shower heads/taps/valves - Hansgrohe/Grohe
Ceramics - Duravit/RAK
I used them too, around about half the uk price. Hansgrohe, Duravit, villeroy-Boch, Grohe and Keuco.

I haven't looked, but do their taps etc fit the 15mm pipe we have?

If I wanted a P shape white enamel steel bath, is there such a thing?

If I wanted a shaker style, white vanity unit, with a marble top and a copper undermount oval or round basin, where so I go?

Oh yes, all fits fine - the only thing I didn't buy from there was the wall hung toilet frame as I wasn't 100% sure the waste would fit but in hindsight I don't think that would have been an issue either.

No help on the vanity unit I'm afraid - they always seem hideously overpriced everywhere!

Not any more, the standard is...less than ideal these days.
Mmm. We've got a new Ideal Standard sink. You can have the back edge of the sink level. Or you can have the front edge of the sink level.

Your choice! Exciting!

The family we bought our house from intended for it to be their "Forever" house so he spent a fair few bob on it. Most of the bathroom fittings are Grohe and Duravit. The quality is all excellent.

The only issues we've had have been related to the pipework to the fittings themselves which just goes to show that you can spend millions on fittings and still have to rip things out if you've employed spanner gibbons to fit them.

Shameless plug - I run a heating and bathroom company with 7 branches.

As has already been said, quality varies massively. It’s an area that always amazes me that people are willing to spend thousands having a bathroom fitted, scrimp on fittings, then pay to have it repaired regularly and replaced after five years.

Depending on the genre you are looking for, different brands offer the highest quality. As someone said earlier, for a trad bathroom, Perrin and Rowe are great. Feel free to PM me for some other recommendations based on what you’re looking for.

Sadly you’re a bit far from our showroom to pop in.

Ooops, forgot to reply, just done so, thanks.

The best price I could see online for Kaldewei bath we wanted is £370. So I popped into the local builders merchant and ordered it for £298. A great result, I do like to buy locally on the Island as much as possible.

Just need to order everything else.

I've been fitting a reclaimed Ideal Standard basin today, it wasn't possible to level that either! Further complicated by the pair of brackets being more of second cousins than close relatives.

I second this - I really like the Vado stuff, you can match taps, holders, hooks. Just completing one of our bathrooms today and the range is excellent.

I always assumed Hansgrohe and Grohe were the same company. Woops.
I think HansGrohe and Grohe are different businesses - they are the same family though / brothers who fell out and set up rival businesses so I'm told.
