First crop of Strawbs ready to eat:

Only one with a slug hole in it. Have never grown them before so unsure if they'll have a second crop this year, will be watching out for offshoots or whatever they're called to increase the numbers.

Excellent, and quite early too. Mine aren't ready yet. I find they crop for a few weeks then that's it.

Yeah - need multiple varieties or different environment (e.g. tunnel + outdoor) to really have a long strawberry season

Wife picked her first today, came in with a couple of red ones and a few red/green ones to ripen on the window sill. The polytunnel residents have gotten a few already. Put straw around the plants to deter slugs. Should have done that to the now disappeared courgettes maybe.
I'd scattered pellets around them liberally. Most have disappeared (the pellets, not the slugs).

Toms and cucumbers coming on. Padrons sadly not, hence a couple of mild chillis from B&Q>

Is that a rogue side shoot there on the left waiting to be nipped out? It's like a game, sneaking them out whilst you aren't looking. Have they had any flowers on yet? Mine are only about a foot high, but on second truss of flowers I think.
Cucumbers are impressive, mine only have about 4 leaves on them. Courgettes are coming on fast though, some flower buds forming:

Looking good. I usually end up with a tomato hedge, but I've sneaked a chilli in front of this one. Cheyenne, not hot, as the padrons aren't going well. https://www.thompson-morgan.com/p/chilli-pepper-ch...

Those cucumbers a little pale so have started adding Epsom Salts.

Haven’t posted here in a while, so here goes:

The raised bed is doing well with runners and broads at the back (no beans yet unfortunately) then from far side to near spinach, Swiss chard, spring onions, beetroot then just shooting through carrots and parsnips. Previously I had a load of golf ball sized radishes where the carrots and parsnips are.

The greenhouse has a load of tomatoes with a couple of marble sized fruits just appearing, and a load of rocket and salad leaves at the back and lettuce up on the shelves.

Chillis starting to poke through with medium strengths on the left and hot ones on the right.

Back outside we’ve got blueberries, a couple of rosemarys and bay at the back with parsley, oregano and mint at the front.

And just for good measure a bunch of courgettes on the deck. All of the plants were grown from seeds too, so I’m really pleased with how they’re all doing so far.

Is that wind damage to some of the leaves on the Chard or Spinach? I think my plants are glad it's stopped blowing at last.
Ive got some tiny toms forming too and the courgettes are just about to flower. That one on the front right looks a bit yellow?

You could be right on both counts. I’m not too worried though, last year we had less than half the number of courgette plants yet had a proper bumper crop throughout the summer. There’s plenty of chard too so if we lose a bit then there’s still a fair bit left.

Having said that I’m not sure what the answer is to remedy both so any advice would be welcome smile

Looks fantastic. The pale courgette might want some feed or magnesium/Epsom Salts.

I might need to eat some leaves.

Courgette for dinner tonight

woohoo

(We did have other things with it biggrin)

Looking at what is to come I think Courgette will feature highly on the menu over the next few months.

Cactus are enjoying the sun too, as they do:

First time growing anything... Should I be snipping some leaves off these 2 cucumber plants? Read that I should be removing male flowers as well, do I hold off on this for a bit to let insects pollinate the female ones?

Cheers.

They're doing well. Almost all cucumbers now are all female F1 hybrids I believe so unless you know that's not the case, no need to do the male flower thing. I've never cut leaves off, but that doesn't mean it's right.

Courgettes look good. smile

More pickings today. The left 3 are in a different spot and don't get quite so much sun.

Apparently self pollinating but yes, you do need to remove the male flowers.

I don't think they are self pollinating in the end - lots of the female flowers started to grow what looks like cucumbers but they've mostly all withered at the same size they were when flowering. I'm leaving a few male flowers to open then will nip them off and try to hand pollinate any female flowers that are left.

Lesson for next year to buy decent seeds that are from a self pollinating plant!
